Engine Oil seals

Post by Slash01 » Tue Aug 18, 2015 11:05 pm

I have recently been in need of a few oil seals for my lovely 480, however have been having trouble finding a couple (especially the intermediate and rear camshaft ones). So in my efforts I have researched all the seal dimensions and have corresponded them to Elring part numbers.

Camshaft seal (front/timing)
25mm/42mm/7mm
Elring 508.544

Camshaft seal (rear/transmission)
22mm/45mm/7mm
Elring 508.608

Crankshaft seal (front/timing)
50mm/68mm/8mm
Elring 508.470

Crankshaft seal (rear/transmission)
85mm/105mm/8mm
Elring 508.462

Intermediate Shaft seal
30mm/40mm/7mm
Elring 508.489
There are always ample warnings and there are always subtle signs,
And you would have seen them coming but we gave you too much time.

Nice :)

I was having trouble finding only the gearbox end cam seal and was thinking about measuring it but you've already done it!

Top man. Proper labour of love!

Most effort Slash01 did was translating from Dutch out of the research I did :? http://www.volvo480forum.com/index.php/ ... 25806.html
Too bad he failed to mention the corresponding Renault part numbers, and the fact I only researched parts for the F3R/B20F engine. There is no guarantee these seals will fit the B18 engine.

If you want to completely renew all the seals of the engine, you can buy an engine block gasket set, e.g. Volvo 3 287 710-2, Renault 77 01 462 817 or Elring 984.290 for the B20F/F3R, I've seen them as cheap as 40 quid incl, UK delivery.
For the B18E/F/FT I have found more part numbers: both Volvo 3 287 710-2 and 3 287 710, both Renault 77 01 462 817 and 77 01 466 408 and Payen EL960. Try the obvious suppliers on the interwebs, you will find them.
Robert.
