1990 Manual Turbo Starter Motor

All the information you need on engine-problems is here. The engine includes the Turbo-charger, airco and everything else you'll find under the bonnet.

1990 Manual Turbo Starter Motor

Post by 1st480 » Fri Aug 14, 2015 1:37 pm

Can anyone confirm if there is any difference in the starter motor for a 1990 Turbo (Orange ECUS) and starter motors from other years and engines?
Mine no longer works simply rattles and spins slowly or doesn't spin at all.
Thanks,

I've just been on eBay and they have one for the 88-91 and one for the 91-95 and both part numbers match.. I would double check though..
Someone will be along to clarify

To somewhat answer my own question, it appears that there are 2 options on starter motors;
Both will happily bolt in place, but one is a 9 tooth (believe these are for pre '91/92) the others are 10 tooth.
The later 10 tooth ones have a much thinner body, the 9 tooths are much fatter but I believe slightly lower power rated.

I'm not sure if there is any difference between turbo and non turbo, but it seems to fit in with the change in clutch diameter '91/92 and I would think explain one of the reasons you can't swap ecu colours without swapping flywheels.

Hopefully this might help someone in the future :)
