Oil Filter

Post by Alan 480 » Tue Nov 11, 2014 8:38 am

did an oil change a few weeks back and previously it has been FRAM or Mahle, but this time UFE (or similar)

ever since the change the oil light just takes a few seconds to go out, I reckon there is no 'anti drain' valve on the filter.

any thoughts ?? ?

I think the oil is a bit thicker than the last time, it is 15 -40 GTX this time (I cant mind what it was the previous time , it might have been 20-50 ? in other words it gets what it gets and a regular change as opposed to 7500 miles etc :-0 )

I will maybe try and get a Mahle OC 222 and see if that helps, the local Motor Factor can get them in stock, I asked about one last week and they reckoned the last time it was ordered was two years ago and that was probably for me!!

I've got lots of oil filters in stock

the lack of non return valve is the most likely cause for the delay in oil pressure

update

fitted Mahle and 'slight improvement' , however as I don't normally drive the car I don't know if this is a 'new' feature or something happening for months before I changed the oil.

I'll leave it a while and then swap out the oil light switch as I have a spare one of those anyway
