I have seen pictures of engine bays where there's a "black box" with a ribbed hose just behind the engine, on top of the bulkhead. The hose connects with the engine, just behind the belt cover.
What is it for?
My car, a 1990 turbo does not hav the box. Just an opening to connect the hose to the engine? Do I need to get one?

Injector cooling. It has its own temperature sensor, makes a hell of a lot of noise and is good for nothing. That's why they skipped it probably, I believe in '89.
Too old to bother

Thanks! I was worried that something important was missing back there. Is there supposed to be a lid, or is it O.K. to just leave it open as it is?
