All the information you need on engine-problems is here. The engine includes the Turbo-charger, airco and everything else you'll find under the bonnet.

the boost ecus are matched to the same colour of engine management control unit. These changed over the years with some colours being able to be used by more than one.

Beyond matching the units . the actual difference has never really been discussed. I suspect that they are rather small but not trivial.

In essence they perform to the same criteria but only when matched with the correct em unit.

I assume volvo tweaked these over the years but ended up with the same performance level. Remember the engines themselves changed over the years of production.

I have no doubt that if you need an in depth explanation or even a little more detail than I have given then no doubt Robou will be along soon as he has studied the turbo's ecus and modified them as well . He is by far and away the most experienced in this area.

Yes, see post above!

Robou's work is very good and well respected around these parts... How do you get to 500-odd posts on here without coming across Robou??

lol

Anyway, I have two of his modded ECUs, and they greatly reduced the 0 - hillarious time on both cars! ;)

I'm just back after a 4 year absense, was richmod in my day. So not dealt with Robou, but would love to get my hands on an upgrade.

Ah, fair do's! ;)

Not had any personal experience with a Richmod, but apparently Robou's are a little more refined and progressive than Rich's.

Pretty much the same end result though.

Robou does still knock them up from time to time, maybe worth a cheeky PM?

The orange/orange combination was introduced when Volvo changed the camshaft so different timings were asked for. For this reason an exchange with purple/brown is not advisable.

my 1991 480 turbo has orange/orange ecu with richmode. so, you are advising me not to use the purple / purple(brown) ecu`s on my car?

but, if i also have a b18ft with purple ecus, mounted on another car (renault 12), can i mount the orange ecu on it?

basically it is not advisable to mix the orange with the purple ecu .

also it is not advisable to replace the purple/purple combination with the orange /orange combination as they are matched to different camshafts.

I am only repeating what Robou has already posted.
