Oil Temp Sensor
Hi guys, any idea where the Oil Temp sensor is located?
I've recently fitted an Info Centre into my S model, and the Oil temp reading is always cold, so I guess I need to check that I've got one fitted and/or connect the wiring to it.
Also I've got a hunch that my Engine temp readings are off. Before the Info Centre the temp gauge wouldn't rise above half (Seemed to think that operating temp was about 1/3 of the gauge)
Now I've got the IC the Temp reading when the engines warm is 87. I think maybe this is 10 degrees out and should be around 97. right or wrong?
I've got a spare sensor for this if I need to replace it though.

There are always ample warnings and there are always subtle signs,
And you would have seen them coming but we gave you too much time.

Re: Oil Temp Sensor
When cruising along, mine is about that.
Sat idling it rises to about 96-98 then the fan kicks in

I'll keep my eye on the temp readings to get a better idea of what's going on, with your readings in mind.
Though at the minute I'm a little bit preoccupied with MPG readings. I just love seeing how bad I am a economical driving. lol
Any ideas on the Oil temp sensor? I'd like to get that hooked up and working.

Re: Oil Temp Sensor
I assume alongside/combined with the 'auto' dipstick, between the dip stick and alternator mount I have a connector/gubbins disappearing into the sump.
water temp sits about 87-89, oil on along run high 90s.
or engine says'cold' intermittent connection, no surprise there then

Auto? maybe I should have mentioned mine's a manual. lol
I'll have a look around that area in the week to see if I can spot anything.
I guess seeing as Vera never had an info centre fitted till last month the oil temp sensor wont be connected. the reading is constantly "cold"
The outside air temp is also "-40" however I know where this is and have a couple of spare sensors for it.
After checking the Coolant temp readings on a long run they show an operating temp of 78 degrees. I guess the sensor needs replacing.

Re: Oil Temp Sensor
sorry, by 'auto' dipstick I meant 'electronic level measurement' alongside oil filter/cooler (if fitted)
the info centre automatically checks the oil level when the ignition is first turned on.
if low (not sure how low) it comes up with CHECK as it scans through the sensors in anti clockwise direction (or if dicky connections) I always do a weekly check anyway as don't trust them!

Re: Oil Temp Sensor
well I'm still not sure where it is, I think only turbo's had the oil cooler.
My info centre says check as it goes though the sensors but I goes off afterwards. it lingers on the -40 outside air temp but that's because it's not connected.
Then everything works as it should, barring the odd glitch.
I've recently found an oil leak that appears to be coming form the oil pump seal. will have a proper look this weekend, but the dipstick shows I haven't lost a lot of oil so with me now walking to work everyday I'm not in a rush. If I have to take it in to get it fixed I might ask them to have a look for this oil temp sensor and connect it.

Re: Oil Temp Sensor
I'd put up a photo if I could just attach it but I don't do flkr or anything techy!!!
the oil cooler is out of the old 1700 'ES' that we had before the 2litre one , so no, not standard!
The fact that it comes up 'CHECK' is because the two are probably in the same unit? (and you don't have it?)
For operation , . . . .. if the same as the old Ford unit in the SS1 it is a simple 'hot wire' to check the level and then a RTC resistor for temp?
