My B18FTM drinks coolant...!

Hi at all!
A while ago, i had a problem with my volvo 480 turbo, had stayed without coolant because breaks one water tube.
I had repaired the water pipe and i think that it can have an engine damage because since then, the engine drinks water and it's a problem... For the pipe exhaust, it expels water...
I have bought a kit of head gaskets, i'll fix this problem with it?
Do you recommend do any checks before do this? Compressions before and later?
Someone of you had to do the head gasket? I need and advice...
I never had to open a engine and i would not do it wrong.
Thanks!

2 tests ;-

1 check for emulsified oil on the inside of the oil filler cap

2 compression test each cylinder.

post up results here...

Hi Jim, I read yor reply yesterday and today i find a "compressimeter" that my school borrowed me.
Then, i have do the two tests you tell me.

1rst, it seems that there's no oil mixed with water in the filler cap, without any bubbles or something similar, only thing that i doubt a little it's that this oil smells like petrol...

2nd, I do the compression test, first i disconnect the coil injection, and then I've removed high voltage cables and the spark plugs.

(I tried to do 3 times to be sure that it's not wrong tests)
My result was:

(timing belt)
Cylinder 1 -> 10-10'5
Cylinder 2 -> 8'5
Cylinder 3 -> 10-10'5
Cylinder 4 -> 10'5
(All values are in bars, and it's an average of all the tests)
I have do the test more times only in the Cylinder number two, i don't believe it...

What it means?... heeeelp ^^'
(I'll send you the photos of today)
Thaaanks! :D

photo as promised.

Instead of renewing the gasket why not try a special sealant for the cylinder head a lot less bother than changing the gasket and well worth a try.

If the engine drinks a lot of water , it has no chance to run normally . Check sparks plugs . The best test is to warm engine up , open expansion tank / carefully / move accelerator cable and watch for bubbles in coolant . If you have head crack or head gasket failure , coolant will " boil " . During cold morning like now , a small amount of water is leaving exhaust pipe , nothing dangerous .
