Going to flush the coolant, advice needed.

Post by timcoleman420 » Thu Oct 31, 2013 2:04 pm

I'm going to flush the coolant out this weekend as it looks like it has just been filled with plain water, a kind of dirty colour but neither green or blue like i've seen in my other cars.

I have a bottle of pink anti-freeze that I was donated. Will this do the job or should I buy something specific?

You should check that the antifreeze is suitable for ''older'' vehicles, there was a change in specification of antifreeze/system requirements in general aboyt a decade and a bit ago

Some of the new stuff isn't compatible with older radiators especially I think.

To be on the safe side I'd just go and buy old fashioned ethylene glycol (the use stuff) which I think was all that was available when the 480 was designed.

Comma recomend G48, which new Volvo's & BMW's both use now. This is Ethylene Glycol based, and is far superior than the older stuff.
You can pick it up at Halfords in either 2 or 5 lts, I don't think GSF stock it yet??
