Drive belt !
Guys I need a quick answer on this if possible.
Just trying to move house and on the first small run the bloody drive belt snapped
Mine has the (working) A.C and I need some codes for compatible drive belts as no one seems to stock one for the 480 or if I know the length I can measure one.
I know that it's (was) a standard 6 ribbed belt and I'm assuming that the cam belt will have to come off in order to fit it, but I can get one of those easily.
Just need a quick fix as she is coming off the road in June for a major overhaul.
Pete.

Re: Drive belt !
Have you tried W.A. Lewis in Featherbed Lane? I've always found the service manager, Mark Nutting very helpful with my various 480's. Colin, the parts guy is good too. I'd advise renewing the cambelt at the same time. Incidentally, you were lucky; when my auxiliary belt went, it took the cambelt with it.

Re: Drive belt !
Hectic day moving house but finally got 5 mins to look at the problem.
There are 2 belts if you have air con and it's the smaller one which drives the alternator.
The number on it is 2 022
If anyone can shed any light it would be much appreciated.

Re: Drive belt !
I just replaced both belts (and the timing belt) on my B18FTM engine with airco (not yet working) - the long 6-track belt is 1555mm long (Volvo part 3473198) and the small 3 track belt (Volvo part 3450074, driving the alternator from the airco compressor) is 600mm.
I got mine from eBay, look for 6PK1555 and 3PK600 (or 3PK592 or 3PK597) - both ebay.co.uk and ebay.de (search for "treibriemen" offer 100s of these.

Re: Drive belt !
Wanderer, (or indeed anyone else) did you determine which drive belts you need?
I've been directed to the wrong ones by eurocarparts, for 2.0L celeb/aircon/1995. Definitely the alternator belt they've sent me is wrong (it was 6 track not 3!) and looking at the 480 partsbook it appear that it should be 3 track, 592mm in length. (this latter matches pgmm's spec for a different engine: B18 vs B20)
Can't seem to find the a/c belt anywhere in the partsbook or online with the exception of eurocarpars (6 PK 1152) which the garage I took the car to told me was wrong. Having said that, the specification of this belt matches that given by pgmm for the B18FTM.
Any ideas, anyone?

Re: Drive belt !
Well, I've not really got to the bottom of this.
The partsbook does give information about the alternator belt, for a B20/manual/with aircon it should be a 3 track, 592mm in length.
Oddly, I can't find any mention of the aircon belt in the partsbook. I've looked several times just to check that I've not missed it.
As for the belts I bought, based on what eurocarparts said were the correct ones, but were incorrect, they have been sent back. Over the phone they claimed to know what the right ones were and would send them out, wouldn't tell me the spec as I think the operator has a maximum call time : he couldn't get off the telephone quick enough! Anyway, they've now refunded me the cost of parts, but have had to chase them up several times. Still they have not refunded my postage costs to correct their mistake. They said they would send me the correct parts once they recieved the returned ones, but seeing as the parts have been refunded I guess that won't be happening. Not impressed with the service from eurocarparts.

Re: Drive belt !
If its a cheap quick fix 2nd hand replacement of the auxiliary drive belts for an aircon 480 then I should have at least one of the 2 taken from a late model 2ltr.
Need to know if you are interested before I delve into the recesses of my shed
I removed an aircon unit from my daughters 480 and replaced it with a standard heater unit. But I kept the belts.

Re: Drive belt !
Thanks for the offer Jim, but it should be OK. The drive belts look in decent condition, just thought I may as well have them changed at the same time as the cambelt (which I had no record of being changed)
If you come across them, many years from now, maybe you could enlighten us as to the a/c belt spec....if no one else does!
