New idle con. but still bad

Post by Zoist » Mon Aug 08, 2011 5:52 pm

Hi

I have just connected a brand new idle controller. i had hoped that i would help for the erratic idle.
But when i start the car it settles at 2100 RPM, if I hit the gas once it goes down to 950 RPM and i can hear the engine fights to keep running like it is too slow.

one of my friends played with the gas, and suddenly the engine accelerated to 3000 RPM in idle... WTF????

we had to stop the engine to get some peace again...

What can be wrong since it starts at 2100 RPM, and barley can keep it self alive at 950 RPM?
and what's up with the 3000 RPM????

I had a lot of problems with my 92 1.7 es idle changed idv , sensors lambda and eventually the fuel ecu and it was the fuel ecu

a guy on ebay is selling them at £20 each.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-VOLVO ... 1353wt_754

hope this helps all he needs is the ecu number from the front of your ecu ;)

ah damn....

I can see that my car (ES 1,7 1987 B18E) and the other (ES 1,7 1988 B18F) don't match...
but you say that the problem may be gone if I change the unit? that it is possible....

worth a try...

i Can see I need part no. 9031281

but where is it the ECU is placed??? I can't remember... is there not a complete list of where to find the different controllers?

the fuel ecu is on the passenger side for LHD cars to the right of the passengers feet in front of door.

the ebay person will go by the number printed on the ecu label. take your number from your unit .

B18E from 1987 have probably Bendix/Fenix 1 ignition system. It's hard to find this ECU.

Injectors have low resistance in this case.

The comprehensive list of what I did to solve my crazy idle was...

(remember I have a comprehensive load of spares )

1 replaced the idv
2 cleaned throttle body (this actually made things worse !!! )
3 replaced throttle position sensor
4 replaced the engine temp sensor
5 checked all earth points
6 checked alternator
7 eventually sent for another ecu £ 20 later and instant result. :hopping:

this was on a 92 1.7 ltr engine

Hi

is there any one who has a overview of the earth connections?

I have all ready changed the Positioning censor and cleaned the throttle body.
engine temp has been checked (info center water fail)

but how to check the alternator? the only thing I can find about that is to unplug the coal and check the length of it?

I have found the ECU and the number is S100803102, I will try if the Ebay-man has one in stock (do you have one glasgowjim?)

the info centre uses a different temp sensor the one you need to check is at the side of spark plug 1.

sorry dont have any 1.7 ecu spare.

testing sensor is easy start engine and let it idle then disconnect the sensor there should be an immediate change in the idle if not its non functional.

It sounds like youve tried changing many many things, all with no result. Does that mean the problem lies with the wiring or connections-did you clean the connections when changing things?

I have seen this thing....well my first call was that it's for CO2 setting adjustment, cause you could manually alter it...
