Stalls in reverse...often
My car stalls in reverse, usually when parking, just as I am about to engage first..stall, restarts fine...
any ideas where to start, have replaced distributor cap and arm, plugs are bosche 4's...other than that no probs.

your car must not be rolling (standing still) and you must cluch fully, gently and a lot before you jam your shiftlever in the rear gear.
remember, the rear gear and mostly the first also are not synchronized on most cars.
if you shift to rear and your car is rolling (mountainous roads) the gears shift very agressive. this can stall your car.....
but I aspect you to know this ? anyway , I hope its this.

no problems at all getting in reverse and reversing, it is when clutch is depressed and gear engaged across to first, noticed as the steering wheels suddenly becomes real heavy!!
Apart from this I am having no problems!!

Well sounds like the power steering pump could be putting too much strain on the engine? Could be as simple as belt tensions or fluid, or as bad as worn pump or steering gear. This is all just opinion, not from experience but hope its helpful. I would have thought there was some sort of device to up the idle speed when turning???

Pol, this stalling does seem to be connected to the steering, but only when reversing, having said that, I will try slow forward direction tight turning to see if that has the same effect.
Haven't had time to check anything on the car yet, not even fluids, but will on my next day off - Tuesday!!!
How would I know what to look for in the tension belt /steering gear...I will manage the fluids with out help!!!
Thanks, any helpful hints or suggestions are welcomed and appreciated.
