Re: which engine is better
I favor the 2-liter engine, nice torque, excellent cruising characteristics, love it.
But then again: the Turbo does have a nice lit up Turbo-pressure-gauge

Re: which engine is better
the 2ltr having driven both it is smoother and a better drive
Re: which engine is better
The Turbo needs more care. You may only open the throttle after the oil reaches at least 70°C and have to let it cool down after harsh/fast driving before shutting it off to prevent the turbo oil feed from getting clogged with residue.
Plus under the bonnet you have a lot of additional stuff that gets in the way when servicing the beast. I currectly have a Turbo with A/C and ABS MK2 and it is cramped under there - local workshop wants 360€ to change the clutch (just labor) and after seeing what has to be put out of the way I believe them
But: If you want power and speed you have to go for the Turbo. With the 2L you will be limited, no matter what others say. The Turbo, being so low-pressure from the start, almost drives like a NA car, but if you beef it up a little it goes like stink.
Costs more though. Fuel, parts, labor, the lot.

Re: which engine is better
I like the torque of the 2.0L, plus its power is similar to the turbo and it is simpler. Less to go wrong in a big way is good!
Depends if you want the 'turbo' badge (plus more expensive insurance) and greater ability to tune it up

Re: which engine is better
how do you mean which??
Re: which engine is better
The're are offcourse the turbo B18FT. But also the B18E, B18F, B18PEP/FP. The last ones are non turbo. Those are all 1721cc.
Here you can compare the differences between them. The B20F didn't change much, but the '93 B20F can use oil like an oilboat, better stay away from that one. The later '94&'95 B20F is upgraded, so no more oilconsumption. You can easily spot the difference between them by looking at the oildipstick. The ''bad' B20F has a red oildipstick, while the 'good' B20F has a green oildipstick.
The only reason for prefering a turbo above a B20F is for tuning reasons. If you plan on not tuning always go for the B20F.

For tuning have a look at the tuning and tweaking board. Lots and lots of info there.

Re: which engine is better
There is minimum difference between 2.0 and 1.7T in the city. Big difference is over 80 mph on the highway
