1.7 n/a - what are the tuning options?

All the information you need on engine-problems is here. The engine includes the Turbo-charger, airco and everything else you'll find under the bonnet.

1.7 n/a - what are the tuning options?

Post by aron » Wed Oct 27, 2010 3:42 pm

i don't know much about the restrictions/areas to best find gains on the 1.7 n/a

is it just better converting it to a turbo? or better just to get a turbo engine?

are there any possibilities with the n/a engine as it is?

would a 1.7 or 2.0 on carbs be any good? which engines have the best parts available for getting a few more horses?

i love the thought of a supercharged 480, has anyone ever done it?

i'd like as much info as possible? any tuners in the UK specialise in our engines?

If you put a turbo engine in, it would need a new wiring loom as well.
Yes, one has been supercharged by rpruen; don't think he visits the forum these days.
Don't think you'll ever get much extra out of a N/A engine & you could spend a lot of money trying.
If you convert to carbs, you'll have problems with the electronics.
In short; sell yours & buy a turbo, preferably with a richmod.

You can tune up N/A engine, but more effective is swap the Turbo engine. If you insist, you can make inlet manifold polishing

BUT REMEMBER! INSIDE

thanks for your reply

i know the history of my car, plus i doubt i'd find a turbo as clean with such low miles
they didn't make a paris edition turbo and that's what i want to make mine ideally

do rebuilt turbo lumps ever come up for sale? seems such a stale market for everything other than complete cars

Those Renault engines are pretty bulletproof, they can cope with high milages. The turbo itself, hoses and the electronics will give up way before the engine does.
I've seen a couple of brand new turbo engines here in Holland adverted for around €800. But you'll also need the ecu's, wiring looms and turbo. That will make it pricey.
