Which turbo to put onto B18FT

Post by dagajsek » Wed Jun 03, 2009 5:26 pm

Hello!

I am a proud owner of a Volvo B18FT engine which has, unforunately, malfunction on turbo itself.

I am in a phase of either looking for a new or renewed turbo T2 or a bigger turbo from other cars. I am looking for T25 turbos. Which would fit without too many problems caused to fit it to the engine?

Thanks for your help,
Damjan

I use a T25 fron a 2 litre Saab mate, nice quick spool up same as your T2, but big enough cold side the power doesn't drop off higher up the rev range.

Renault 5, 1.7 volvo turbo engine, turbo technics turbo, lowered on koni, scorpion stainless exhaust, samco and stainless pipework, front mount intercooler, about 170 bhp.....more to come!

Is that a direct fit mate... I was thinking the same sort of thing but was wondering what is involved in fitting the t25....

Myself also. From my searches of the site, I don't think it is as simple as a bolt on replacement. I would love someone to tell me, buy this turbo, bolt it on, and it will work -> better.

Nah its wasn't a direct fit, if it was everybody would have one.

I had a saab manifold and a volvo manifold welded together so i could use volvo downpipe, spun the coldside round and redrilled actuator fixings and so oil and water would line up something like, fitted larger bore braided oil feed line, larger water lines too, and all new intake from turbo to AFM. So really the only thing thats the same is the high pressure outlet pipe.

Saab fitted 3 different style T25 turbos to the 900 range (i think don't quote me on that lol) and i'm pretty sure i picked the most ballache one to fit!! grrrrr

Garrett T25G from Nissan, but you need to make an adapter for the cold side air hoses, and for the downpipe. Spools great with a rich mod.
1996 850R 2.0 T5 - "Beebi R"
1994 480 Turbo - RichMod - sold to get the R
1992 850 2,5 20V - sold to get the R
1987 744 TIC - Haas Tuning - totaled by BMW
1973 142 GL B20E - sold

Can you provide any more info on this mate, or any pics of the adaptor plate you need to change... ;)

Here's one from JohnTurbo:

http://volvo480.dragons.org.uk/forum/vi ... 25+adapter

I think some people get hold of an early T2 from a volvo 480 just to get hold of the downpipe, which is detachable on the early ones, and not on the later ones. This can then be bolted on to another turbo with a bit of work.

I've also seen the adapter plate... Get on the search button!

There could be though.. I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong!

bolt up directly to the manifold. had to spin the compresor and exhaust housings
an make a bracket for the -31 actuator.
