Chris your particular turbo unit is very good never had any trouble with the turbo nor was any reported by pink lady or drum bum.

Your recirc valves are likely blown. Both of you.

It is possible the cone filter in this case, but if you had stock induction in place a fluttering nearly noise always means a blown recirc. This will stuff your turbo and lose you performance at gearchange.

If you want to test, remove the small vaccuum hose for the recirc...and attach a spare length so you can suck on it.

- if you can suck air through (other than just pulling the diagphram) then its time to get on vagparts.co.uk for a new one.

For the record a richmod wil kill a stock recirc in no time!! The vag one is uprated.

vagparts.co.uk ??

I have exactly the same issue. With a k&n the sound on gear change is obvious. With the standard filter it was not audible. I would like to change the recirc valve. vagparts.co.uk doesnt seem to load.

I replaced mine with an uprated Bosch dump/diverter/recirc (whatever you want to call it!) valve from an Audi TT. Supposedly, it can handle 225BHP, which is much more than my 480 was making, even after a RichMod.

I bought it from here:

If you so a search on the forum here for 710N (the end of the part number) you'll see that it gets quite a few recomendations.

Ben.

wkd thank you

in all fairness i rellie like the sound lol

but if it is the valve can i just throw on one of my old dump valvs would that cure it

and thanks jim im not bein funny but after having the car uop on the ramp im not taking anything for ggranted she has more rot on her then the titanic and is after all a high mile car so i just wanted to make sure that there aint an issue but thanks again ps i read your whole diary last night louis is going to have a new lease of life its a shame you sold her im sure she would have been spotless by now

jhon turbo that sounds to me about right she lags a fair bit when changing gear and i was in all fair ness exspecting a bit more pull as i said to jim she is high milage 161. 000 and after jim i dont know wat happend to her not alot in all fairness by the look of thing 4 flat tyres rear suspension hangin off due to rust gear box had rotted on the end making it leak fluid onto lower arms thus destroying lower arms i got alot of work and your advice has rellie helped so far

thank you all very much

Thanks Ben! I tried my local motor factors/uniparts with no success, so went ahead and ordered from the website you suggested. Cheers!

No probs! :-) The Audi version looks identical to the one already fitted, so is a direct replacement - just with stonger internals.

I fitted to audi tt recirc valve this morning. It has made a very big obvious difference. No more fluttering and the car is more civilised to drive (less eratic between gears). Nice call ben!

fluttering sound meanst that your dump valve is toast, it doesn't vent the air out. So replace that. That thing killed my turbo.

I take it this recirc valve is the one in the turbo pipe, like on the main air in side after the air flow meter... And it has a tiny vac hose that goes in the top..

Was thinking of changeing mine, i followed that link but i can't see any pic's of it...

yes it is as you described.

this is not the same, but looks the same. The one in the link above is plastic on the outside not metal. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORGE-FMCL007P-RE ... 1002r21915

but the shape is the same.
