What's this hose connector good for?

All the information you need on engine-problems is here. The engine includes the Turbo-charger, airco and everything else you'll find under the bonnet.

What's this hose connector good for?

Post by Raffadakis » Sun Apr 19, 2009 7:13 pm

Hello,

I'm the owner of a 1.7L Volvo 480 ES.
Any ideas what the hose connector (big one, like for air) on the opposite side of the engine oil filler cap is good for or what it should be connected with, as there is a buckle but no hose.... it seems to be part of the injectors bar. I found no other unused connector to which it might be connected to. First thought it might be part of the oil vapor recycle system.
Tried uploading a pic of it, but as i'm not registered long enough, no chance. Hope you get what i mean.
Got my Hanyes manual ordered, but not recieved it yet.

I think it is for the injector cooling system. This system was installed on the first cars, but later left out. The metal part where the hose could be connected is still there at the injector rail, without any use.

The oil vapor recycle system is located at the front of the engine.

Fuel injection cooling. Not used on just about all 480's. Some may have the plastic/rubber connection and find it breaks without much effort. Forget about it.

Thx for the info! So there's nothing about it being open? Shall i look for any spare parts to make it working again, or can i just leave it like it is?

No problem Raff. I would say leave it alone unless you strip the inlet manifold down then you could remove it and bin it.

Thx Martin, well one more problem which might be related with that thing.....horrible vibration noises coming for the area between inlet mainfold and the injectors... might there be something loose on the cooling thingie which might give metallic rattling noises?? They are really bad/loud between 2500 and 3000 rpm...which is bad, because that's the rpm when driving within city...

Did you have to replace the mainfold inlet gasket? As this plastic cooling part can be source of horrible noises, which i temporarly got rid of, be readjusting the clips holding it together. But i want to remove it as soon as possible. Do you have to disconnect all the hoses leading to the inlet or only main bolts?
