850/V70 series 2.4L swap...is it possible?

All the information you need on engine-problems is here. The engine includes the Turbo-charger, airco and everything else you'll find under the bonnet.

850/V70 series 2.4L swap...is it possible?

Post by BLK_480 » Sat Jul 12, 2008 7:08 am

So I searched the forums looking for a thread about this topic and found nothing. I just bought a 1995 GLE wagon and as I was cleaning up the engine bay it seemed to me that the 2.4L I5 would fit in my 480. I've been pulling my hair out thinking about the future of my 480. If I remain in italy until 2011, I would be able to have my 480 shipped back to the US (it will have surpassed the 20yr mark and at thtat point all the import proedures are tossed). But it is difficult to get parts and getting the engine serviced in the US would be near impossible. If given the opportunity, I would like to take my 480 back to the US and fully restore it. I was thinking I'd do a full engine rebuild, new suspension and paint. But from what I've read, a full engine rebuild is near-impossible due to the inavailability of parts.

Anyways, the 2.4L is widely available back in the states and I would think it would work with some minor fabrication and cutting. I considered the T5 but I think that would be too much power for a FWD application and would require more work trying to get it to fit. The 2.4L puts out 168hp/170tq in stock trim. I see it as a major reliablilty upgrade as well as a decent performance enhancement as well.

Has anyone else considered this, is it even possible?

Almost anything is possible but how much money and time do you want to spend on it?

Hmm, more a topic for the tuning section of this forum.
Search on Caddilac Northstar on this forum, it may give you some new thoughts to play with...

I saw the northstar thread, that seemed a little intense (extending the nose etc). I'm going to measure it all out the next time I get a chance. Fabrication isn't an issue but I would want to avoid custom suspension/axle parts as that would defeat the purpose of easier maintenence.
