Accelerator pedal gets stuck ! Help ! Any ideas ?

Accelerator pedal gets stuck ! Help ! Any ideas ?

hi

has anyone got experience of their accelerator pedal getting stuck ? normally happens in town sort of driving, ill be driving a while then when you have to stop or change down and go to push the accelerator pedal again its jammed ! and u have to push quite hard to free it ..

ive tightened the throttle cable a bit at the throttle housing side, but its still doing it !!!

help ?!?

Hello Edward,

thats a very scarrey and unsafe thing to happen!
Havent experienced it myself, luckely.
Have to sort out if its caused by the throttle housing/valve
and/or cable(damaged maybe and gets stuck in outer cable-harnas?)
Pedal not likely though, if it was the other way round as in
getting stuck while accelerating, then pedal would be an option i think
(had exactly this with my old VW LT camper)
Clean throttle house and valve with carb clean and check if cable can move without resistance.

problem solved !

just cleaned all the throttle house and now works like a dream !

now just need to sort out the high idle when engine is hot !

i had a small problem with my accelerator gettin stuck wide open !
had to quickly turn off engine and reset found this to be a sticky butterfly in the throttle housing
scary when it first happened on m5
