Oil leak - Solved!

Post by owen080808 » Mon Aug 27, 2007 10:09 pm

Further to my hint in the post meeting thread regarding my oil leak, i must take this oppertunity to appologise for about 2 litres of 10w40 oil that i scattered on the return leg north, most of which went over the rear end of the convoy!

Having a quick look under the bonnet/car when back in glasgow looked like it was the oil feed to the turbo. Not the first time this has leaked on my car! (see here)

Removing the pipe i found that it leaked very slightly when filled with a light oil from the collar joining th fixing to the pipe itself at the non turbo end. I don't know if its something about my driving style, or perhaps my car but i'm fed up fiddling these rigid pipes in and out.

Off to Pirtek i went, £39 later (a little steep i know but i went for the stainless braided option: belt and braces :D) they made me up a pipe for the next day, and it looks lovely.

Its now installed and i've been for a thorough test run up to more than average opperating temperatures ;) and not a hint of a leak. because its flexy i also chose to install it a more visible/easier routing than the rigid pipe has. Just going to keep an eye on it for the next few miles but overall i'm well chuffed.

Very nice line you have!

That's how the spitfire is getting done.

Talking of pipes..... I fixed a water pipe on my 480 today because it has started to leak.

Lucky I spotted it before tusedays 66mile trip on the M4

Very nice! Why couldn't Volvo do this in the first place? They can be so tight sometimes!

Its rare to see someone upgrading an engine component. Its usually a case of "fook me Volvo want £9000 for one of these"!!!!

Thanks for the positive comments!

i've just been on a trip to inverness, so by the end of tonight will probably have about 500 miles on the new hose. i was wary at first (its close to the exhaust/turbine housing) but it seems more than a match for the heat, pirtek says its good to 230 degrees opperating temp, my oil hasnt been above 106 so i think all is well.

happy days.
