Arghh!! My Volvo did a shutdown on me :(

All the information you need on engine-problems is here. The engine includes the Turbo-charger, airco and everything else you'll find under the bonnet.

Arghh!! My Volvo did a shutdown on me :(

Post by levin » Tue Sep 12, 2006 11:11 pm

Hi fellas...

Well it seems my car is witched or something. It's now having troubles more and more often.

I was cruising along a country road and everything was fine, until the car started to have "hick-ups" and eventually shut down.

I tried to restart and the car "almost" stand at idle but always shut down. I tried to step a bit on the gas too but no luck. The starter motor works but the car doesn't want to "run".

Any clues ? Btw, the battery died (i tried to start a lot...and the battery wasn't on it's best shape for a few weeks now) and the gas tank only show's one "bar".

A friend told me this should be the MAF..but jeez..i hope not. That's too expensive.

Any clues?

PLEASSEE let me know..

Cheers

I don't have a fuse scheme. Which fuse is that? I never needed to change any fuse on the car

Could also be an ignition problem if the engine is turning over. I'd check your getting a spark aswell as fuel delivery amigo.

Hope it's nothing too $$

The thing is, I was actually driving and everything was fine. It was from one moment to another that it started having those damn hick-ups.

I'll check if it's getting any sparks and if there is fuel delivery...

Cheers

PS: Still need to know that pump fuse location and number...plz.

The fuel pump fuse is in the front passenger side of the car along with many others behind a folding panel. Look just above where your right leg is if you are sitting in the passenger seat.
There is a key to tell you inside on the panel which fuse is which. :)

It's the Crank Position Sensor. You'd need to replace it if it was the cause of your current problems. Made by Renix. It's above the gearbox, bolted to the side of the block with 2 11mm bolts. Sensor end is like T-shaped, with a two pin connector the other end (like those on a late type drl). Look at my rough idle thread in the engine section for pics that Dan posted.

I don't know if this is the problem with your car, checking this sensor can't hurt.
