Guys
What is wrong with the origanl sparkplugs from Volvo???????????????????

I do not like Bosch plugs these are probably good for the old VW kever
but not in a Volvo with thea renaultr related engine. Is my experience.

And remember buying expensive plugs gives tghe situation that for that prize you could probably two times buy the original plugs
and have younger plugs on the overall.

Say you buy these expensives ones
that are said to last lonfger say 50 000 kilometer
that is in 100 000 Km two sets gives an average life off 50 000 KM.
If you buy standsrd plugs 4 times to cover 100 000 km. gives you an average lifetime of 25 000 KM.
So in trhe average you use younger plugs.
And younger plugs gives mostly better starting and running.

I agree if you have a tuned engine it might be wise to search if there is a sparkplug that performs better . But let this be done by people who know what they are doing.
Wrong plugs may cause egine damage.

Always Borsch Super 4s. I have used them in my Rover GTA, Volvo 240 and 940 Turbo. They last twice as long as NGK or Champion plugs and don’t seem to get fouled up as much. My recently purchase 480s will get them when gets serviced next Month, but I’m to busy driving it at the moment!
Not another Volvo!

that's basically my dilemma. theorically the super 4's are great, but some people say it ain't so great, others love it.
as for the beru plugs, i've only heard people talking good about them. i am tempted to try those

Super 4's aren't worth it for turbos - my Volvo plugs gave the same
performance as the super 4s.

My Iridium plugs on the otherhand have made a hell of a difference :)

Well, I'll put in another vote for the Super 4's. They made a big difference to the general smoothness on '89 ES (B18E). Also helped get rid of some flat(er) spots on acceleration.

Just a thought, and I don't mean to upset anyone by saying this, but have the people who are against using them (for an ES, not a Turbo!) actually tried them, or are they just against using them because they aren't "original"?

Ben.

I have a set and a 3/4 which are virtually new (in fact 3 are totally new and unused - I had to buy a second box because I dropped one and chipped it, and they don't sell them as singles - grrr) - so if any of you ES boys want to give them a go, I won't want much for em :)

i don't think that beru plugs are sold here, so the bosch super 4's are the main choice now.

i'm not looking for performance, only idling smootheness, wich is already pretty good for a 480, and easy starting, wich i think could be better. if it included better economy, it would be great.

I use Champion OE 097 "long nose" RN7LCC on my '88 turbo

Don't think anything else is effective. the extra costs bring you nothing.
Just adjust the electrode gap correctly before installing them with a feeler gauge. Most are out of line, new in the box.

Saw 4 lip spark plugs, but they were a great mess. I would not spend the extra money to such shit.
luck,
JPF

hi

now you mentioned it, i wasn't really looking for any major improvements. just wondering if there were any spark plugs that could replace the originals, and making the engine idle smoother than it already does.
but, thanks for all the replies, and please report all the experiences with other plugs. i am very interested in all the answers, and price of the plugs isn't that important, they are very cheap here.

Are you talking about Denso Iridium plugs?
I've read about them and they don't seem too bad so I have tried to find someone here in my area who sells them but so far no luck.

Do I want to keep searching..? :)
