MOT fail

Post by Norm57 » Wed Jun 08, 2022 7:03 pm

Hi all,R3 failed it’s MOT today on high CO emissions.I am stuck as to how to cure it.it doesn’t have a potentiometer to adjust and I have tried a couple of bottles of injector cleaner already which has improved the mpg but not the emissions. The max limit is 3.50 and it’s reading was 4.56! Any help much appreciated.Norman

Where's the potentiometer gone? It was certainly fitted when it left here.

Thanks Jeff, no there is nothing attached to air filter box so who knows? Will have to try and source one I guess.all other fails can be dealt with but without the potentiometer I am stuffed.

Sometimes they fall off the air filter and are just hanging by their wire. Either way you need to find the plug. You can replace it with your own potentiometer— originally it would go from 300 Ohms to 10k Ohms.

It’s a pity Maplins have gone. RS Components have loads for sale— be careful you don’t waste too much time looking at their stuff that has a minimum order of 1000 if you sort by price!

Renault part number for the potentiometer is Renault 7700722068 I believe. But hopefully yours is still there, swinging in the wind.

Surely the plug is still in the engine bay ready to go? Or do you suspect it has been ripped off for some reason. You should find it on the bunch of wires running down the sort of middle of the engine bay, above the clutch area of the gearbox.

Update I have sourced a potentiometer from the car being broken in Norfolk. Hopefully it’s the right one.
