try looking at crank sensor, check with a AC volt meter, disconeect it and chack the voltage when spinning over, you should get a slight A?C voltage as the flywheel spins past the sensor when cranking.

See if you have a spark fron the coil before the dist cap, if you have it could be a faulty rotor or cap, cheap fix,

What year and engine is it???

Often when a 480 starts to run sluggish and deteriorate it is due to muck from the engine getting into the distributor . Check this first before going mad about the car trying to check everything under the sun . keep it simple. Easy obvious stuff first then if no solution move onto the next level

clean out and with a bit of sandpaper clean the deposits formed on the cap connections inside the cap. Then remove your spark plugs to see if they are not all gunged up ! If they are clean or replace .[/u]

Oops see you have done this already DOH :wall:

how about the ignition leads?

engine earths?

i second the the earth strap. my mother had a mini wouldnt start. garage had fitted starter and were about to fit new alternator.i put new earth lead and problem gone.check it by running a piece of largeish wire from battery-
to a clean spot on the engine.

also had a 480 that would not start and it was the ignition relay behind the steering wheel above the control pedals , i had to be a really bend over backwards whilst upside down to get at it. this fault is quite rare though.
