Turbo recondition

Post by kev » Sun Jul 27, 2008 9:15 am

Hi all ,As you may know I have a Turbo which I am going to strip and
rebuild .This is a long term project to keep me off the streets  The
engine is ready to come out but the Turbo has some play in the shaft.
This means an overhaul and I have been quoted £175 to £330 +VAT !
Has anyone had this done?
Oh have also been quoted £580 for an exchange unit .!!!
Sounds like the overhaul is the best option any thoughts ?
Thanks Kev

Don't forget that the shaft will have a bit of play in it because the oil pressure makes it run true but when there's no pressure it will woble a bit.

I Have a brand new turbo (not for a volvo I am sorry to say) and that has a good amount of play in the shaft.....

yes you will. You need oil seals, thrust bearings and hydrostatic bearings.

Theres kits on ebay that provide loads more crap than you actually need....so try to get just those above.

Search garrett T2.

I've wondered about this before too and would be willing to give it a go if and when I thought mine needed it. I'm sure I posted on here before but people thought it was a difficult task?

It'd be interesting to hear your results.

Cheers,
