THINK POSITIVE !

Sometimes threads get out of hand. People start offending each other or do things that are not allowed (like asking for illegal software). These sort of threads will end up in the 'Hall of Shame'.

THINK POSITIVE !

Post by midnight rambler » Thu Sep 25, 2003 11:49 am

Cool new site, well done..
I think i've spent too long browsing tech questions, It leads me to believe the 480 is a freaking nightmare to run! My experience of owning my 1st 480 (since June) is however quite different. 5000 wonderfull, trouble free miles. This car has kept a smile on my (and my girls) face.
So please, lets have some positve input on this site and let the good times roll!!

My current car has given me no particular hassle at all - only hassle I've had is with swapping the bearings ;) - other than that it's been great :P

Well my 480 hasn't given me much problems, except for backfire once (in the period she was still drinking LPG) and one of the headlight-motor broke down...

Other than those problems, she drive very nice, even with 143k mls on the counter... :D

I have my 480 for 8 months now and I drove 11000 km with. No technical (motor) things, only stuff the dealer was to lazy to fix in one time after I bought (under warranty), so I had to bring it back a couple of times.

After the warranty only the window mechanism and now a broken relay in the CEM. I think I'll be fixing more little thing in the future, but I think it'll last for quite some years.

Mine has given me very few problems since purchasing in march this yeat. It has only gone through one clutch, three gearboxes, two driveshafts, two stub-axle carriers, one rear exhaust box, a subframe and a few other minor bits and bobs. Pratically trouble free motoring.

Whow, nice work guys, nice new improved outfit.

But I don't I agree !

most post here mention well, only a some big trouble now and then... :kill:

I propose to change the title of think positive to DON"T THINK AT ALL
(serious)

I used to handle warranty on a big sole importer of John-Deere vehicles, which were(are) top of the market. It was easy to think it was all crap as you got a 30 cm big pile of warranty forms on your desk every day......

But it wasn't, it was only a momentum, this was normal for other brands too.

what I mean to say is don't judge a product in the place were all the shit comes together

The tech forums are only meant to help you, and find similar errors and tips, not to scare you.... :hopping:

One more thing also that were all amateurs, in the right sense of the word, (incl me) we curse more, and seek longer before we find the problem. Some people even have to start to learn how to implement tools first, so that makes the pile of "shit" even seem worse

So don't think at all , instead of think positive !

Luck
JPF

Ps: whats a Saab? a shitty opel vectra converter ?
luck,
JPF

But the whole point of car forums is to get, and share answers to questions, mostly problem related.
Let's be honest, The 480 is no Toyota when it comes to reliability. Still a good car though. I brought my 480 to replace my MR2. And I have to say it handles and goes pretty much as good as the MR2. The 480 is certainly less 'frantic' and a little more of a relaxed everyday cruiser with good handling when it's needed.
The only down side is the build quality really.

Yeah volvofox, I see where you,re coming from.
This site has been so helpful and informative during times with problems, but such times have been far and few... I would just like to share the joys of driving such a fabulous car with other 480 owners

TFMorton,

don't think Jamo's remarks was adressed to you.
On this messageboard not everybody has the same sense of humor. This has lead to some heated discussions in the past. And I hoped we had left such pointless discussions behind us on the old messageboard.
Frankly I feel Jamo's remark is a bit below the belt so to speak. Luckily not everybody knows what happened to the former world champion boxing (heavy weight - WBC version) monday last.

I had my first 480 for 15,000 miles of trouble free driving, till It rotted out :cryhard:
My current 480 I have done about 8,000 miles with no problems, (although my aerial stopped working on tuesday!)
And In addition to that I have raced a 480 round a dirt track. The engine was constantly screaming on the redline and the amount of load on all the components is incredible, yet I only broke one driveshaft and two engine mounts.. And believe me compared to all the other cars that race and break a lot more often this is nothing!!
480's unreliable..pah! :D :D :D

I have two (ok it's a 1.7i & not 2lt like yours) but the turbo just kicks the pants off my 1.7i.
