Re: alternative engines?

this has probably come a little late as a replacement 2.0 sounds like the easiest option by far! However, the F3R in my Renault 19 RSi is a great engine, torquer and more refined than the 1.7 B18FP in my 480, not quite as effective at higher speeds but fantastic at lower rpm. It's 1.8 8v with 115hp ...

Re: Flashing abs light

it might be worth considering that these accumulators only last about 8 years because the high pressure nitrogen gradually creeps out of them, i think even when they aren't in service. So if the one in your shed has been sitting around for a long time it might not be any better than the one in the c...

Re: LED quvivlents of the standard bulb sets?

sllllightly off topic here but on the subject of preserving front light clusters (one of the purposes of LED conversion) I just use the standard two filament DRL bulbs but insulate the 'bright' contact so that the car can only ever use the lower output filament. Dim DRLs at all times, no warning lig...

Re: 1200 rpm when warm

My 1992 1.7 B18FP engine had a similar problem for ages and no amount of tinkering with switches, sensors, leads, ICV would fix it. As with your car mine would only idle high when the engine was up to temp. In the end I sorted it out by tightening the idle control screw (hidden under a green plastic...

Re: Front seats

god this is one hell of a job. it took forever to get mine out and you've gotta be so careful not to destroy the torx bolts. it's an idea beforehand to clean up the bolts from underneath with a soft wire brush and plenty of whichever spray lubricant you're using (i think i had some silicone stuff) a...

Re: Are my brakes working properly?

Hi, My post on the Teves Mk2 ABS system might be helpful here. Basically tells you how to diagnose and replace the hydraulic accumulator. http://www.volvo-480-europe.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=35151&p=209657&hilit=teves+mk2&sid=0e724d4ecb37a795ece4ffbd6667a7f1#p209657 The accumulators are still ...

Re: Battery drain

One other thing to rule out - and which was draining my battery overnight until i figured it out - is wear in the brake pedal mechanism which causes the pedal to drop slightly, activating the brake light switch. I had no idea what was going in with my car until one day I glanced back at it after par...

Re: broken windscreen - available??

I had mine done about three weeks ago by autoglass for the £75 excess on my insurance. They did a good job, fitted a pilkington screen with top tint and the vin reader window. The guy gave me the impression there were plenty of screens just sitting around in warehouses. I also took the scuttle and t...

Re: Teves mk2 ABS - Hydraulic Accumulator Replacement

Nice one - thanks for the link.

And you're quite right. I tried swapping out all my relays before tackling the accumulator, but unfortunately it didn't solve my problem.

always nice to have brakes that work eh ;)

Teves mk2 ABS - Hydraulic Accumulator Replacement

Hi - I've been a member since 2008, used the wisdom of the forum plenty of times to keep my car on the road, and finally might have a few things to give back... I've been running a 1992 Paris Blue ES as my only car since 2008 in which time I've stuck about 55,000 miles on it, taking the grand total ...

i'm now considering taking the nearside mech out just to lubricate it.
