Re: Coming to America - mathrock's USA Volvo 480 Turbo
the front plate doesn't look too bad but that rear...... If we got a front number plate (white in the UK) made up with similar details entered on it, would that be legal? I've thought about this. There are websites that can make custom Euro plates with whatever text you want. Unfortunately in Maryl...

For the rear plate, ditch the holder and mount direct to the bumper same as the front??

Re: Running On
do petrol injectors really 'inject' I thought they just dribbled the fuel into the inlet tract (OK a sort of spray, but not a proper diesel spray) :-) i wondered about pulling off the wire from the ignition pack rather than turning the key off, that should stop engine pretty quick, if it runs on the...

Re: Running On
James whilst teaching grannies to suck eggs. . . . . . you need three things for combustion, air, fuel & spark OLD carb fed cars would 'run-on' cos the idle was set by a fixed butterfly opening and this let air in, obviously as the air went in it sucked in fuel. if the plugs were 'redders' then it w...

Re: ECU and ignition relay
Actually Alan, you might have something. I might be trying to be too "proper" with my fix trying to track it down. Might be worth doing that and getting the engine running again as once that's running I'm more motivated to get the rest of the car ready. Aiming for summer to have her back on the roa...

Re: ECU and ignition relay
If engine happily spins over then it can't do any harm running a live feed to the fuel pump, it runs (should)100% of the time anyway so I'd 'hot wire' the pump, then try cranking it over, at least you could 'jury rig' a relay from the ignition supply to start / stop the fuel pump as a stop-gap? (ass...

Re: ECU and ignition relay
It seems to stop after a minute of the ignition being turned on, seems related to the lambda sensor light going out. Whilst the relay is clicking the lamba also flickers, I also see the rev counter stutter a little (just bounce off 0). Does that rev counter stutter point to power being cut/dropped ...

Re: Wondering if I should put my car in storage...
So.... if you were to store here, where would it be? Layed up on the driveway? Cossetted in a warm garage? If there's rust already, its not going to go away, even if you lay the car up - it may even get worse quicker! Using a car daily can be better for them, as long as you're giving the car a freq...

"The car starts and runs for about 2O minutes or so then splutters to a stop and will not start. I think the problem is with the fuel system when I check the spark plugs after cranking a few times after it has stopped they are dry and don’t seem to be getting fuel. I have checked the pump and it’s w...

Re: Engine swaps : what's possible ?
and Fraser's car is pretty special, running four carbs into a willaims engine, pretty much mechanical staright swap, he is running 'DIY' / home brew /after-market ignition/fuel system so power up by 20 - 50%! :hopping: I think he used the engine/gearbox/shafts? it is probably on 'FACEBOOK' group, i'...

Re: Lights - Bulbs and motors
Just to add a couple of thoughts: LED Headlamps? Don't even think about it - Yes they'll be bright, but will they give a correct beam pattern? Nope. All you'll succeed in doing is illuminating enough of the road to see the bloke you've blinded smack straight into you. LED's for other bulbs. Now, he...

Re: 218 Arctic Blue Metallic - Where do I get some?
yep
spraying metallic paint is a near nightmare, it can look OK when viewed in one light not the other, spraying from front to back will appear different form spraying back to front , must use same angle all the way . .. .
try matching red, it's worse

Re: Erratic cooling fan
Seems 'odd' that it does it with more than one switch . . . .. I did have odd effects once , but then it failed completely so is now an after-market switch on the top cooling hose (I had it left over from a previous project) only used the high speed option. I fed it from an 'ignition switched' cicui...

Re: 480 Limited Evolution
Projecting around 9/11 k once finished. Im needing the arches widening slightly on the rear I think that Fraser (Cranna) just removed the return lip so he could fit wider wheels/ lower etc, but maybe your wheels are just too wide? if it had been teh SS1 then you just warm with a hot air gun and pul...

Re: Blinky 51/480
I thought I was being clever and over the last few months got what I though was all the parts needed to build a set of front struts. Went to put them together over the weekend but the spring was way too big for the strut. I realised that there is a cup the the bottom of the strut for the spring to ...

Re: Snazzy's story
looks good, I just buffed off the 'rusty areas' with a twisted cup wire brush on angry grinder and applied a couple of coats of ALDI/Lidl metal paint (green :? ) same paint has survived for about ten years with no marks on the sills of the SS1 so reckoned OK on a subframe! not too fussed about 'appe...
