Re: 29th Sept 2018 Hampshire Mobile Mini Meet
Sadly I was unable to attend this meeting. Looks like a good time was had. Lastly, EyeofRa, greatly anticipating seeing your car(s) back together for next year. Car (s) will not be next year. Not decided yet if second car is even saveable at the moment and if it is it will need a lot of work. As fa...

Very impressive. WOW
Not been sure what to do with my mounting brackets that fit onto the block as its going to be black like yours. Decision is now made and it’s not black.
Is the gearbox white or is it a trick of the light/camera/my screen?

Re: 480 Wanted
Classic car insurance tends to have other restrictions as well age. Some or all of the following may also apply depending on the company you use and this is certainly not a full list as many things normally covered on a standard policy may not be included. Age restricted (driver and car) Mileage res...

Re: Headlamp electric motor
Jaster is correct on a 1991 the 12V will be either Green or Green/Yellow dependant on side, I didn't spot that. :tomato: However I have 4 books covering 86-90 and all say the opposite to the 91 book.  Ground - Pin 2 (Brown) 12V - pin 1 (Green or Green/Yellow) I’ve just checked my 89 car...

Re: Headlamp electric motor
If you don’t have a 12V supply you are going to have a problem but the MOTOR wires are Ground - Pin 1 (Brown) 12V - pin 2 (Green) If you have the paper version of the Green Book rather than the PDF of the book it does show which pins are which. This is for 1991 as per the link Jaster posted I've not...

1.7 N/A Flywheel Wanted
As per title really. Having taken the starter off I have found that both the gear on the starter and the flywheel teeth are worn, explains the intermittent loud noise when trying to start the engine. I did think of just replacing the starter as the new gear would reach further into the flywheel teet...

Re: 1987 480 ES Project -- D-reg, 2nd oldest in UK
I have been looking into using stainless steel for various things and from what I have found it is not a good idea to use it in contact with aluminium as it causes the aluminium to corrode due to galvanic corrosion and I think the smaller of the two pipes pictured fits into the cylinder head. It mig...

Re: What Have I Got?
As I mentioned Model Year and Registration Year are not the same. If my time with Volvo in the 00’s is anything to go by Model Year 92 could have been received by the dealer as early as April/May 1991 and registered very soon after. Model Year actually has nothing to do with the actual year it was b...

Re: What Have I Got?
The main site is also not quite right when it comes to Model Year changes, they should be 500000 - 501199 = 1986 501200 - 517500 = 1987 517501 - 536100 = 1988 536101 - 549000 = 1989 549001 - 563100 = 1990 563101 - 573099 = 1991 573100 - 580999 = 1992 581000 - 586299 = 1993 586300 - 590000 = 1994 590...

Re: What Have I Got?
Model Year and Registration Year are two different things. The V5 is Registration Year and VIN is Model Year (a better term would probably be Model Number or Build Number to stop confusion but that would be to sensible). When I worked for a Volvo dealer the Model Year could change very early in the ...

Re: Polar Parts Quality
Thanks for the advice. Now thinking having brought the Timing Kit from James of getting Springs and Water Pump from Mister Auto and the Control Arms, Strut Mounts and a few other bits from Polar Parts. The only problems I had was with the front drop links that were longer than the originals and rubb...

Re: Polar Parts Quality
Thanks for the offer James, PM sent. Dont know Polar Parts. Skandix are the top German suppliers and I know they have the control arms, just ordered a pair for mine. I did look at Skandix but they are twice the price. Having now looked at Mister Auto for the water pump I may get the control arms fro...

Polar Parts Quality
I’m about to order £260 worth of parts from Polar Parts the main ones being Timing Kit with Water Pump, Left & Right Control Arms and Left & Right Strut Mounts.
Does anyone have experience in the quality of these parts from them or suggestions of where else to get them?

Re: self parking front wiper control
OK to be fair to HBOL, there are THREE wiring diagrams, viz 440 / 460 to 1991 480 to 1991 then 440 /460 1992 on and nowt for 480 1992 on :( so 'wrongly' assumed it was a typo/omission and they'd merged the 440/460/480 into a single harness, and just not connected the short part of loom required for...

Re: self parking front wiper control
Glad you fixed it. For future reference been through my wiring diagrams and it appears (assuming I’m not missing any) that the front wipers wiring never changed, except losing the “kick-down to continuous wipe” feature. So for all years the Normal Speed is not controlled by the CEM but Intermittent,...

Re: The Current State - A Lotta Hope
Just a quick update.
A new job and a holiday have kept progress down.
Engine bay rust treated and painted and subframe wire wheeled and partly sand blasted but at least I’ve been able to get more parts and tools for when I do get more time.

ref 'yellow fittings' There was one on the N/S when I went to re-fit the subframe, was unsure if there should have been one on O/S as well :-( , I'd have thought there should been two to keep subframe lined up, front is rattle fit bolts so no advantage? I hadn’t even noticed the plastic fitting (al...

Re: LED quvivlents of the standard bulb sets?
I did post in another thread that looking at the diagrams there was a car with no DRL, nice to know they do actually exist. And James is correct in the UK both the 21w AND 4w work at the same time when the pop-ups are down. I just use the standard two filament DRL bulbs but insulate the 'bright' con...
