Six grand 480!
I recently came across a dealer in Holland who specialises in classic volvos. I was looking for a 780 coupe but what really caught my eye was that they're asking about £6k for a 480 with the equivalent of 90k miles on the clock: http://autobedrijven.autoscout24.nl/schmidt-gemert/occasions?=5#atype=C...

Make that 2 in 12,000!
Visited Lyme Regis on the 30th January and parked down near the harbour. Returned to the car park to find a black L-reg 480S parked right alongside us - hats off to whoever that was, sorry we didn't get to say hello!

1 in 10,000
I've owned my white 480 Celebration for just over 6 months and in that time have covered over 10,000 miles without spotting a single one until I finally broke my duck in Carlisle on the 27th December with a maroon celeb parked up on Brampton Road near the Art College. Quite fitting really as I lived...

Re: Brake discs and pads for Celebration
Good thinking Davey
Have just been outside to check in the daylight and whilst you can't really see the full shape of the pads, the caliper is clearly stamped "Lucas" so that's good enough for me.

Re: Brake discs and pads for Celebration
Thanks Jim I've typed in my reg number on the ECP website but it appears to give me two options for front pads, seems you need to know if you've got a Lucas brake system or a Teves - the pads look different....... Lucas: http://www.eurocarparts.com/images/products/600x600/topcat_101660058.jpg Teves:...

Brake discs and pads for Celebration
Hello all I wonder if anyone can tell me what brake discs and pads I'll have on my 1995 480 Celebration? I've tried to look this up on various car parts websites but for a 1995 2.0 litre 480 there seem to be a few options with respect to type of pads, whether it will have solid or ventilated discs a...

Re: WANTED: 15" Cetus Alloy Wheel
I only actually need the one but if someone has got a full set for a good price I could be tempted, especially if they've got good tyres on them.

Hello there!
Does anyone have a good quality Cetus alloy wheel (480 Celebration) for sale?
I can collect from greater London area or south Somerset or anywhere close off the M3/A303 when travelling between.

Re: Damp Passenger Carpet
Finally got round to changing my heater matrix today. All went pretty smoothly except for getting the screw that holds the plastic yoke undone, i thought that was tricky but it was a doodle when compared to putting it back on! Whilst easing the old matrix out I must have broken the plastic hinge on ...

Re: Damp Passenger Carpet
Having had wet carpets and water vapor coming out of the vents on and off for a while I'm also planning to change my heater matrix. Like you I've got the centre console out (had to remove the rear section as well which the Haynes manual didn't mention) and was expecting to spot the leak straight awa...

Re: Manual to Automatic Conversion
Rather than buying an engine and box from a breakers where I've got no way of knowing if it will be in good working order I've been thinking about doing a transplant from a car that I know runs well. However, rather than have another 480 as my donor I was wondering if I could use the engine+autobox ...

Re: Manual to Automatic Conversion
The turbo+auto I've seen has only got 54k on the clock so I'd be more than happy if it got me to 135k! Have had a good search for posts on manual to auto conversions but can't seem to find anything. Has anyone out there made the switch in this directon? The posts I did read made a turbo auto sound l...

Manual to Automatic Conversion
Hello all. Does anyone have any experience of converting a manual 480 to an automatic? Is it best to try and find a donor engine+auto box and replace the whole thing rather than trying to marry an auto box to the existing engine? I've got a 1995 celebration with only 51k on the clock but the clutch ...

Re: Faulty VEM = Fixed! ... and air-con works now too!
Thanks Gaz I've almost certainly got a leak in the heater matrix as I've got wet carpets in both footwells and the liquid smells of coolant. Glasgow Jim has sorted me out with a replacement heater matrix but I could really do with some advice on fitting it. Do you have any photos? Do I have to remov...

Re: Faulty VEM = Fixed! ... and air-con works now too!
I came across this thread whilst searching what to do with a fault blower fan/VEM and having followed the FAQ instructions and soldered the problem contact - once again exactly the same one shown in the FAQ photo - I've now got a fully operational blower fan and am feeling quite chuffed with myself!...

Re: Wanted: Heater Matrix & VEM
Hello Jim
How do i check the heater resistor unit?
Will give that a go before getting my soldering iron out and trying to follow the VEM repair "how-to"!
Also can you send me that pm about the heater matrix. Ta

Re: Wanted: Heater Matrix & VEM
Looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet and replace the heater matrix and probably the VEM as well (I checked both the blower fan switch and its fuse and these were fine so a dodgy solder joint in the VEM seems the most likley cause) Jim - are these items that you would have in your treasure...

Re: Wanted: Heater Matrix & VEM
Many thanks for the advice Jim I've been and checked under the carpets and the foam backed mats on both sides. Drivers side was the worst and the fluid was a bit brown but on the passengers side it was clear. In both cases it was slightly greasy to the touch and smelled a bit fishy! I've heard that ...

Wanted: Heater Matrix & VEM
Hello My honeymoon period of 480 ownership appears to be well and truly over and after a trouble free few months I now find myself with no blower fan and puddles in both the foot wells, all within the same week. Not sure if these issues are linked or just an unhappy coincidence! Anyway having had a ...
