Re: DRL & Pop-Up Problems

bonnet switch is designed to PREVENT the motors turning when bonnet is open, to save your fingers, BUT TBH if you are getting some movement try hot wiring the switch under the bonnet catch, it lives in a pretty grotty area and loads of water etc

Re: Sudden (no) Starter Problem

measured 12.5 volts across the two terminals on the starter / solenoid this afternoon, with the car in neutral and igniton at position 2. Looks increasingly like a goosed solenoid. I can see these are relatively easy to source on fleaBay - but are they easy to fit with all that exhaust manifold in ...

yep find the THIN wire on back of starter then run a wire from tht point up near the POSITIVE terminal,

switch on ignition
ENSURE IN NEUTRAL

touch lead onto live on battery, et voila the starter should spin up (also been there, so a swicth in engine bay for spinning engine WITHOUT starting)

Re: B20F inlet manifold pipes

I assume when you say 'left' this is viewed from the front of car looking AFT? FRONT pipe is blocked, i think it is blanked so that the garage can use it as a test point. if the blank is removed idling is rubbish and it will stall on you at roundabouts when not fully hot , guess how i know? MIDDLE v...

Re: leaking auxiliary water pump

I made a little experiment today: Suspended the pump, attached some hoses (one connected to shower  )and let the water run through for a few minutes. http://i1063.photobucket.com/albums/t515/JRT480/Fotografia2668_zps01hej5dl.jpg When I turn the power on there is a small boost in water flow. So...

Re: leaking auxiliary water pump

Hope I am not asking a dumb question, but can I activate-test the pump as of now, like this (outside car, no coolant)? I have a power supply unit of DC 12V (or 13,8V) up to 5 amps/ 7amps peak available, would it just be a matter of making the connections and see if I get response? a quick run off a...

Re: Regretfully breaking 480 turbo auto

Looks better than ours. !

have you scrapped the car?, if not do you still have the frame that the dash-surround fixes onto? most of the palstic fittings ./ screw holes are shot on ours so might worth doing the whole thing?

Re: Regretfully breaking 480 turbo auto

on the dash surround, where is hair line crack starting (as If I need to ask?) i'm in ABZ so can you maybe weigh it and I'll see what postage cost would be. . . . . it's not heavy just bulky for GPO I was thinking of the sticky vinyl repair method, as it would save taking dash apart (again) have you...

Re: Speed sensor

Electronics suffer in time from corroded and/or broken connections, When you want to keep an old car on the road, fear is a bad counselor. You will have to bite the bullet and follow brinkie's advice. Or send him a PM asking him what he can do for you. In his home country he is well known for repai...

Re: Speed sensor

If you have some experience in soldering electronics (or know someone who can do it for you), I would try and solder the joints at the back of the green and grey connectors again. Then you won't have to worry about faulty soldering joints. Chances are, however, that the cog of the replacement instr...

Re: headlight removal

Sure Glasgow Jim has done a 'how to' raise lights THEN open the bonnet. remove the plastic trim from sides of the head light cowls when in raised position, remove offending screws and swap, one of the easiest jobs on a 480! for alignment it should be pretty close as long as you don't disturb the adj...

Re: Car wont start suspect fuel pump - HELP!

or check that the small rubber connection on the end of the inlet manifold nearest drivers front wheel is still connected , it runs up to the sensor at the base of the windscreen, on mine the air pipe fell off so the fuel mapping was all out as the ECU didn't know how much advance/retard to give the...
