Re: Some electrical problems

Model year 87 or late 87 which makes it model year 88? That might sound trivial but the electrics were changed in 1988, and again in 1989, 1991 1/2 (major change) and 1993 model years. Does your instrument cluster have yellow and red connectors? If yes, it's MY 1988. Blue and yellow makes it MY 1987.

Re: N615 RAP, Celebration, 4/AUG/21, near Brixham, Devon

Avantime had to go, I couldn’t bear its awful ride. It may have just been mine, rather than Avantimes in general, but I just didn’t love it after the novelty of a sexy Espace wore off. This very much sums up why the Avantime was a flop. Being a Matra owner at the time the Avantime came to market, I...

Re: Festival of the unexceptional 2021

Now we have had Brexit and Covid-19 is on its way out, let's hope we've had our fair share of plagues in the 2020s so I can visit the UK in 2022. And I also hope FOTU 2021 will be such a success that everybody wants to come next year as well. :)

Re: Does anyone have some pop up headlight hinges?

Send me your address, a very kind 480 driver who's moving house and needed to get rid of stuff has given me a four of these headlight hinges to share amongst the needy!

Postage won't be Skandix-priced: 6 Euro.

Re: Dendy's 480 Diary

- Both windows not working I had such a case last Friday. Was a car which was sitting outside and rarely used where the driver door window stopped working. Found out that both window regulators were fine, switchgear was fine (swapped cables), turned out it had a faulty connection inside the door. P...

Re: From Norfolk to North Wales - SJ's 480S

Come to think of it even after I brimmed the tank the fuel gauge was only showing about three quarters. Could that and an under reading temp gauge suggest a volt drop to the gauges? I have worked on a car with gauges instead of infocentre yesterday. Could not get anything working. Resorting to chan...

Re: Rescue car: R6 - our first GT

How did you get the washer bottle out and how did you clean it? I have to replace mine with one that accepts the headlight washer pump (and subsequently fit headlight washer jets), but I'm struggling to get the old (smaller) one out.
Could start with giving the bigger washer bottle a clean :)

No, there are plenty available, but at vastly inflated prices. There is a large batch which changed hands several times, asking prices are now around 10 pound each.

Re: Aircon Regas

After having my aircon regassed twice, I've decided it had to be fixed, because R134a refrigerant is a very powerful greenhouse gas. So I took it to my trusted Volvo specialist, who managed to find a second hand (but like new) aircon condensor. We had to work on the car for a day, every pipe, every ...

Sadly you won’t get these from a 1989 car. You need something after about 1992 I think.
Model years 1994 and 1995 only, but they were the only ones left as a replacement, so many have been retrofitted to older cars.

Re: 1989 Grey being dismantled

Doesn't matter, roof hasn't changed throughout production. If your car is later than the donor, it will fit and the wiring is already present. You need to preserve everything from the roof, including the headliner.

Re: From Norfolk to North Wales - SJ's 480S

Regarding the CEM, a member of the Dutch 480 community has recently passed away and his ex-wife (who also drove 480) brought a large box of instrument clusters, ECUs and CEMs which used to belong to him, which I will pass on to those in need of a CEM. Ben already got one (which subsequently fixed hi...

Re: Unknown paint colour

The paint code is on the identification plate under the bonnet, "6" in this picture: https://www.volvo480register.nl/wp-content/uploads/identif.jpg The rightmost column, under "Made in The Netherlands", shows code of country where the car was produced for (probably 15 = UK), then colour code (3 digi...
