Re: Instrument cluster/speedometer repairs

If you want to keep using the car while the instrument cluster is away for repairs, any other cluster with the same connectors (most have green/grey which was introduced in MY 1989) will do. The main reason you need an instrument cluster in place, is that the alternator will not start charging witho...

Re: Keyhole illumination?

There is no bulb, it is a LED and should last almost indefinitely. In case the LED remains on, I would try and swap the CEM. I could throw in a CEM into the package with the speedometer (which will be on its way this week-end probably; the ABS issue has been resolved and I am expecting the Paris Blu...

Re: Power Loss Problems

An engine cutting out suddenly could either be the ignition or the fuel supply. I would try and replace both the distributor cap and rotor first, if that hasn't been recently. It will set you back approximately 20 quid and is a very easy DIY job. Then the HT leads, which sell new for around 35 quid ...

Re: Oiltempsensor spooky

Either the sensor or the wiring is at fault, the STOP signal is given if the info centre measures too low resistance or if the input is shorted to ground.

Usually only the little 20 tooth gear breaks.
What makes you think 16 euro for a specially reproduced part, unavailable at Volvo, is expensive?

Re: Plastic Clips for Door Card

Well I thought I'd save a bunch of those clips for you, only to find out the ones on my car are completely missing  Now I know, after two years of ownership, why the door cards are squeaking so loudly: there's really nothing to hold the underside to the door... Anyway, I should find more sour...

Join the club Martin, both my blue 480 GT and a 480 S I am currently scrapping seem to have lost the under-engine cover. Makes it easier to spot the oil leak

Re: She Lives!!

Cheers! :hopping: Ironically, the speedometer in the green Volvo 480 stopped working the other day... I tried swapping instrument panels, it's definitely a wiring and/or sensor issue, but I don't have time to rectify the problem (I need a lift otherwise I can't reach the sensor) so I am using a GPS ...

Re: New alternator needed!

I thought the only difference was the number of grooves on the pulley. If they have the same number of Ampères output (usually 70 A) there is no difference in performance.

Re: GJ's mega clearout of spares for sale

The green and grey connectors from behind the insrusment panel, maybe with some wiring so I could marry up the colours. My experience is that, although the colours of the connectors are the same, the colours of the wiring are different throughout the model years  But, if you need anything to ...

Jim did you get my message? If you still have the seatbelt arm (without the roller) and the springs for the seatbelt arms I would be very grateful.

Re: GJ's mega clearout of spares for sale

Hi Brinkie Have wiper arms / LHD / Thanks for the offer, but I can find them here, Orlando (the Volvo 480 parts guy, not the city in Fla. USA) lives approx. 20 minutes driving from where I live. Nevertheless, if GJ is throwing away everything he has left, it would be nice if I could re-use some of ...

Robert have 2 spare wiper arms :D Oh that is cool. Oh never mind... I forgot about the fact that wiper arms are different for LHD and RHD cars. :wall: I just checked with the parts book, the left hand side wiper arm is the same, but the right hand side wiper arm is different and that is the one cur...

Re: My Volvo 480 is now a Volvo 480.000!!

At least in Spain the rust devil won't eat the 480, but did you manage to drive all 480.000 km with the same running gear? One of my 480's is at 335.000 now but needed another engine. The other is at 310.000 and has received another gearbox somewhere in the past.

Anyway, keep the 480 running :)
