Re: 3d printed spare and repair parts

Great. I can send you the two parts that will then need fitting. You will need a hacksaw or dremel, a drill with 5mm bit and ideally a spiral flute M6x1 tap (a normal tap may work but they are not great on plastic). Or you can send me a broken washer jet and I will send you it back fixed. PM me with...

Re: 3d printed spare and repair parts

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in turning this

Into this?

I am looking for a couple or 3 people to try out my 3D printed repair before potentially making it more widely available.

Re: Volvo 480 Pocket Data Books

Not posted for a while but I do look in now and again. 2 of them are slightly different. The 3 books that were sold were January 93, January 94 and January 95. I have 93 (as per link) and 94 which has some extra info in it for example for the diesel engine, obviously not relevant for the 480, and in...

Re: Blinky 51/480

My rack has 14/16 ports but my hose connectors are both the same size. This is because of parts 16 and 18 in the parts diagram. https://i969.photobucket.com/albums/ae179/eye-of-ra/127658_zpsw8djk55s.jpg My guess would be the ones being sold as 14/16 are without the adaptors and the ones the same com...

Re: Under Bonnet Deadening/Insulation

I believe another reason for the metal is that being plastic the bonnet can become statically charged.

Re: Running On

Was thinking along the same lines as Robou, how the Multi-Point/Sequential/Batch/Port Injection system actually works is not really relevant to your problem (I’m still curious though). So unless the injectors are leaking Robou is correct they must be getting power to fire and on the Fenix 1 this cou...

Re: Running On

On Multi-Point the injector fires into the inlet manifold just before the valve, as you say not as far back as Carb or Single-Point but not straight into the cylinder like Direct. I think the early cars with Fenix 1 B18E and later ones fire in different ways. Very good point. So I checked my books a...

Re: Running On

The injectors spray, properly, individually and directly into each cylinder. That is not actually true. Our cars use Multi-Point Injection not Direct Injection. This is something I have been meaning to look into properly but have not gotten round to ever since finding out that the injectors fire in...

Re: No power to fuel pump

If you are turning the key to the start position and the engine is turning over and the pump is not working then yes the flywheel sensor will be one possibility.

Re: No power to fuel pump

I take it when you mean IGNITION ON you are not actually starting the car? If so this maybe normal as my 89 non turbo fuel pump does not start till the engine is actually turning. One relay clicks but the other doesn’t as the ECU waits for a signal from the flywheel sensor before giving the fuel pum...

Re: My 480 journey begins here

The Aux Driving Lights (next to the DRL) are controlled by the CEM. Main Beam and Flash in the Popups are not. Just to confirm operation. Gently pull the lever towards you and letting go Flashes the lights. If you pull a little harder towards you you will hear a click and the Main Beam Lights will s...

Re: 480ES dash electrical problem

As ijw101 says it’s the CEM on the passenger side not the ECU but I think knowing what engine you have my help as originally you say 480ES 1994 which would make it a 2.0L however you now mention Bosch ECU for injection/fuel control system which would make it a 1.7 Turbo. The wiring and how the two r...

both of them are for 'fuel supply', tied together . . . .
As usual with 480 wiring only on some models.

On the Turbo, F and E Fenix 1 they were.
Fenix 3.2, FP/EP and 2.0L they weren’t.

Re: 480ES boot seal leaking

The seal itself looks ok to me, wet but that will be water dripping on it as you open the tailgate. The more likely problem is the exposed wires, unless the wires are getting trapped under the seal as well. It is as you say a bad design. Do a search and you will find it has been talked about before ...

Re: anybody have an ABS pump for sale ???

Actually having re-read your last post the fact that the pump is separate to the master cylinder makes it a Model Year 93. :tomato: If so (chassis letter P to confirm) and doesn’t have TRACS/Anti Slip (being a turbo it might) there is a unit on ebay, search for part number 466071, that is the contro...

Re: anybody have an ABS pump for sale ???

K reg means your car was registered in either 1992 or 1993 just around the time the ABS system was changed (assuming 440 changed at the same time as the 480) you need to know the model year of your car which is in the chassis number, it’s the 10th digit.

Re: 1.7 N/A Flywheel Wanted

No I haven’t found one as yet. My current thinking if I can’t find one before everything goes back together is take the old one to my local garage and have the ring gear rotated as the damage appears to only be on some teeth, the new starter would then use the undamaged teeth. Apparently (good old y...

According to the Green Books the two speed fan was for cars with Air Con.

Book doesent give off temps but both turn on at "above 92C" and cars with A/C have second speed at "above 98C".

The only other progression is the cylinder head is off and dismantled and valves have been cleaned. Before https://vgy.me/cGWTVq.jpg Arrow is what I hope was causing a sticking valve, it was certainly a b***h to remove. After https://vgy.me/Z9PtaV.jpg The valve clearances are all within spec althoug...

Re: The Current State - A Lotta Hope

Thought it was about time for another update. Sadly little has progressed due to new job giving me very little time in more ways than one. Engine bay looks good and now has stone chip protection in the area most vulnerable. https://vgy.me/ZaLWWj.jpg I have also decided to take renovation one step fu...
