Re: Foot well lights.

I soldered them in on the lightning wires from the contactlock. No need for extra wiring, you don't have to find out which wire is which and they fade with the other interior lights.

Re: alternator

You're right James, I forgot that the airco alternator has a higher output then the non-airco one! Here you can download the alternator and startermotor manual with faulttracing. I suggest you to check the brushes and voltageregulator. They can be changed without removing the alternator, costs will ...

Re: Changing the Speedo Sensor on a Turbo

What I mean to say is that you can measure the resistance of the old sensor while it's still in place. Just remove the connector under the battery tray and measure the resistance. No need to remove the sensor, that way you're sure you don't put a new one in while the old one is still doing it's job ...

Re: Changing the Speedo Sensor on a Turbo

Did you check the resistance from the speedo sensor? You can pull the connector (brown and yellow wire) somewhere under the battery, resistance should be between 1,5-3,0ohm.

Re: 480 lives again!

Ford sold Volvo's parts division for the older models to a private company (Genuine Classic Parts ) when they took over Volvo . They produce plenty new parts for the Amazon, 1800, 140-160, 200 and 700 series which are sold through the dealer network or from their own website. But alas not for the 40...

Here on page 18 you can find the turbo wiring diagram. B14 is the MAF sensor with it's connections to the ecu.

Re: Battery discharging, what can I check?

You can check with a multimeter how much the electr. drain is. Disconnect the + lead from the battery, put the MM on amp and connect the +lead from the MM on the + from the battery and the minus on the red wire which was connected to the battery. Remove the key from the ignition and be sure all the ...

Re: Clutch Issue?

Could very well be the oilseal. But either way you have to replace the clutch. A new oilseal and new clutch is a gearbox out job, a new oilseal will cost you less then a tenner. If you can't scource a clutch new you can have your old clutch reconditioned as option. Partsforvolvosonline sells clutch ...

Re: Wanted: ABS Sensor

I'm afraid this will be a very difficult find as secondhand ABS sensors are almost impossible to scource. This because it's almost not doable to remove them in one piece, removeing them will destroy them.

@BDB;
as you're from Poland you probably understand german. If so have a look at this site, lots and lots of 400 series manuals, some dutch, some english but most of them in german. Have fun!

The aluminium id tag is located on top of the gearbox left/under the airfilter box, so no need to hoist it to identify it.

You can find owners manuals on the download page. Unfortunatly the only GT manual is in Dutch. On K-jet.org site you can find more useful 480 downloads, especially the 480 maintanance file.

Re: 480 ES Newb Serious Engine Issue! Please Help!

Now I know the engine in the 89 480 ES is a Renault engine also, so I think that because the exhaust is blowing near top end/at manifold, the lambda sensor is perhaps not taking correct readings and so is causing the engine to drop out. Can I have your thoughts on my theory! Plausable or not?! You'...

Re: 480 ES Newb Serious Engine Issue! Please Help!

You can find the coldstartsensor just below the most rh sparkplug, brown connector iirc.
You can measure the resistance from the sensor to check ifd it is ok. The lower the temp. the higher the resistance.
At 0c it should be around 5800ohm, 20c - 2500ohm and at 80c 330ohm.

Re: is this normal??

Do you mean that the blower is only working on the airco max setting?
In that case you have to solder the VEM contacts.
You can find a howto here. First click on "electrical system" and then on "ventilation system sometimes doesn't work"

Re: Low idle speed

BTW, your figures are correct for a sensor for a n/a engine which has 1 thermistor. Those figures I quoted are from the turbo manual, so they are correct. I noticed it too that they are exactly the same as from a n/a sensor. Other suspects are the throttle body. Maybe the sensor is not adjusted cor...

Re: Low idle speed

It's easy to check if the coldstartsensor is ok if you have a multi meter. Measure the resistance of the coldstartsensor at different engine temps. The higher the temp of the coolant the less the resistance:
At -10c it should be 9400ohm
0c - 5800ohm
20c - 2500ohm
80c - 330ohm

Re: Cold running fault on 460 1.8 sorry it's not a 480!

There's only 1 coldstartsensor for the ecu but several other temp. sensors. For the watertemp. in the display (the 440/460 and 480S have a temp.meter in the dash), in the radiator to actuate the fan, temp.sensor for the oil and for 480's equipped with injectorcooling also a temp.sensor in the head t...

Re: Cold running fault on 460 1.8 sorry it's not a 480!

The 1.8i from the 440/460 is the B18U engine. It's the same engine as the B20F with a smaller bore. But it has monopoint injection instead of multipoint as the B20F has. The 480 is never been equipped with the B18U. James gave a good advice, check the enginetempsensor (which I prever to call coldsta...
