Article: How to make the turbo boost quicker.

Not 480 related, but an interesting little article I came across - thought it made interesting reading for you turbo tweakers.....

(NOTE: I haven't tried this myself, as I don't have a 480 any more!)

Barryboys.co.uk - How NOT to make a 480 look good!

People are always asking for pictures on 'styling'. Here's how NOT to do it! More pics in link: http://www.barryboys.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=31601 http://www.barryboys.co.uk/photos15/a7b6f9c466ba5aaf464aed916a8c5005.jpg http://www.barryboys.co.uk/photos15/916782c6c379f4fb4669e03f422f65b7.jpg

No probs! :-) The Audi version looks identical to the one already fitted, so is a direct replacement - just with stonger internals.

I replaced mine with an uprated Bosch dump/diverter/recirc (whatever you want to call it!) valve from an Audi TT. Supposedly, it can handle 225BHP, which is much more than my 480 was making, even after a RichMod. I bought it from here: http://www.thettshop.com/search.asp?product=50000&i=show&site=ma...

Re: reg

here you are mate .check the model no 1925. eBay Link £15.69 delivered. That's the same seller that I bought mine from, last year. Arrived the next day. Highly recommended. You'll be surprised how big the new brushes are, compared to the ones you've removed. If I remember rightly, they're about ...

You might like to have a read of this (my account of changing the regulator on my 480 Turbo, last year).

... and "yes", it is quite possible to change the regulator without removing the alternator. The replacement I bought came with new brushes as part of it.

It is the CEM. There is a relay inside the CEM which controls the long range lamps. Chances are that it has 'stuck' on. If you open the CEM, it should be fairly obvious which relay it is (there are several), if you give them a prod to see which ones move, and which one is stick. When I bought my ori...

My guess would be that they're these. I replaced the bulbs inside the radio on my Dad's V70 with them, and they were also the same as the bulbs used in the Air-con controls on my 480.

£1.09 each is a bit cheaper than Volvo, if they are!

BUMP did you find them springs Sent you a PM on 7th April, Lee - about the towing springs, but no reply. Could do with getting rid of them, as they're in the way now. Do you still want them in exchange for a B18E downpipe? Alternatively, has anyone else got a downpipe for a B18E lying around? Ben.

The relay for the long range lights is inside the CEM. There used to be a guide in the FAQ of the main website which showed which relay inside the CEM did what, but I can't find it now.

Depending on how the alternator has failed, if the brushes just need replacing, it's very easy to do (or at least, it was on my 480 turbo).

Also check the two drainage plugs under the bonnet, near the windscreen wiper mechanism, on each side. On all my 480's, these have always been blocked when I bought them, letting water collect and leak in through the air vent or relay box openings.

I think I may have a pair at my parent's house, in the shed. If I remember rightly, the lenses are in very poor condition (cracked and almost certainly broken), so depending on what your project plans are, they may be unsuitable.

I'll check at the weekend.

WANTED: B18E Exhaust Downpipe

I think the part number is 3433140. My neighbour, who has my old 480 now, is after a downpipe for a B18E engine (no cat). Would anyone happen to have one in reasonable condition (i.e. without any holes in it, other than the ones at each end that are supposed to be there!)

Cheers!

I just used the handle of a screwdriver to smash away the brittle outer covering! The inner plastic is quite strong, and survived!
