Re: Brakes

First off, no need to apologise and you're not being a pain when you are asking perfectly sensible questions! The whole point of communities like this is that when you're keen to learn and do things yourself then you come and ask those who have more experience than you - many of us may be mad to som...

Re: Low Mileage (??) Shed on eBay

ditto, and when advertised it was made clear about the extra 30k 'missing' ! too difficult to reset, although easy enough to wind on at 120mph with some pulses from a tone generator :-) but would still take a fair bit of time to do that (about four days per 10000 miles?) Is this the red one, Alan? ...

Re: 480 Turbo on fleabay.....

'SUD certainly has done the rounds, how difficult is it to repair the clutch? Difficult I assume Major job but doable - I've just changed the clutch on the 440 and it certainly gave me a task go get my teeth into! And there's a but less room to manoeuvre in the 480. However, no special tools needed...

Re: what's your favourite in car music?

I was glancing through this thread and didn't even notice who'd posted - but I saw the photo and thought "that's a nice looking 480!" Then I thought "N123...hang on, that's familiar..." Then I looked and saw who'd posted  Really pleased to see she still scrubs up well Martin :D As for music - ...

Re: A Sorry Looking Celebration (Given a Lifeline!)

Indeed, if there was a Volvo 480 equivalent to the OBE, I think Jeff would be in line for it. But what would it be called? Hero of the Wedge, Knight of the Wedge? Either way, your dedication Jeff is really inspiring, really well done! - this is getting a bit surreal now! I like the idea of th...

Put bluntly, James, that looks beautiful!! :D :D I know I was a bit unsure when we spoke about the red bumpers, but I have to say, now, "good call!"

I very much look forward to seeing it in due course...

All the best

Re: Low Mileage (??) Shed on eBay

Seems this one went for £281 - that's not a bad price for a project or, indeed, a 480-shaped collection of spare parts!

Gone to anyone on here?

My Lily also has a replacement speedo done by Volvo. Careful note made of existing mileage in service book but the replacement started at 0. Hi Martin and welcome! If you're on here and in touch with Jeff, then I'd like to think you are halfway towards obtaining that 480 already  Pleased to see you have an open mind when it comes to which 480 - obviously we all want the best condition, documented, etc, but they all have their quirks...

My Lily also has a replacement speedo done by Volvo. Careful note made of existing mileage in service book but the replacement started at 0. The explanation for the Pollux wheels, Ben, is that the S had steel wheels and wheel covers, so replacement with older alloys is quite common on them. Yes, it ...

Re: A Sorry Looking Celebration (Given a Lifeline!)

This is brilliant news Sylvia! Hopefully no problems at the MOT, and a gentle start to reminding Pud what moving on a road under her own power is about...she's got a somewhat longer journey ahead to reach the Pamper Parlour! Many thanks to Jeff for all his efforts on this and the other rescue projec...

Re: Very Very clean one on C&C, 21k miles

I am obviously getting rusty without my trusty brochure collection to refer to! As you so rightly say, Sylvia, 92 - late 93 model cars carried the 2.0i badge. But not a 1990 1.7, and not where it is on this one! I am rather coming to the conclusion that the 87-88 and post-1992 cars are give or...

Re: 1995 Celebration

Given recent articles in VOC magazine about this car, and from what I recall on seeing it a few years back, I believe it is probably as good as you would like it to be! I know Chris Wickers knows it quite well and rates it very highly... Good to see that the asking price is based on an insured value...

Erm...it just highlights how random these cars were!! Interesting you have an ES that late with black bumpers, but I guess it shows the one we are discussing in this thread might just be another such example. I can see in the photos it has the older style mirrors, which is in keeping with black bump...

Ok, thank you for the quick confirmation! I wonder why there are not just two drain holes, rather than this setup. Maybe there is something sensitive below the closed drain... Re: Very Very clean one on C&C, 21k miles

Hmm...it looks good from the photos, but something doesn't quite add up to me. Black bumpers by the time of that interior were only on the S model as far as I recall (without checking); black side strips go with that interior but if it's a 1990 ES then the black bumpers don't. Perhaps this is one of...

Re: Help needed. No start. No spark

Morning Edmund These cars can be very frustrating at times, but hang in there and don't get disheartened - we'll work out what's wrong eventually... OK, the exercise in swapping relays over should have demonstrated that the relays up in the driver's footwell aren't the problem themselves. That's one...
