Bugger: electric window cable dislodged

While I was trying to replace the drivers mirror, I accidentally dislodged the electric window cable, and now it won't fit back on its wheel. This isn't helped by the fact I can only go by touch as I can't see what I'm doing On a positive I have confirmation my car is waxy oiled.... Any idea how I c...

Re: 'Strange'/Intermittent Oil Leak From 'Mount' At Back Of Engine Above Exhaust

If a genuine Volvo one appeared, would there be a danger of the thing deteriorating over the years anyway in storage so may not give the service life you’d expect for the astronomical cost? Not something you'd have to worry about - But only because the chances of a genuine unused Volvo one appearin...

Re: 480 for a car review wanted!

There's several car-related YouTube channels I'm following in the UK, some are pretty fun to watch. One is called "idriveaclassic", run by Steph, a young lady who doesn't do the oily bits, just how the car looks and drives: https://www.youtube.com/c/idriveaclassic/featured Instagram: https://www.in...

Re: My GT lives again!

Interesting. Yes, I think the passenger door lock does always feel more weighted. If there's no noise at all in the passenger door then it might be the motor gone then. At least if it's that it's the same on all 480s as far as I know,... I think you'll have to start looking into the door interiors ...

Re: My GT lives again!

Ah...it should disarm the alarm...interested to know what you discover - beginning to think control unit... David Ok so went out to check the car, I think the lock is fine with the alarm (it just triggers if you open the door while the drivers side is locked, obviously) I unlocked drivers first, ju...

Re: My GT lives again!

Just to be clear, Ben, the motor is in the passenger door. The driver's door lock is mechanically operated by locks, but the control unit signals the passenger door motor to unlock the passenger door. If the control unit is faulty, therefore, locking/unlocking driver's door will give you silence, b...

Re: Number Plates

 - my slightly sad confession is that I wish we were still allowed to use the pre-1974, old-style silver letters on black background plates. reckon they'd be set off nicely on Lily, my green GT... It is, indeed, an interesting item to have found, thanks Edie! David I personally am not a fan of...

Re: My GT lives again!

Central locking - switch inside driver's door lock; central locking motor in passenger door. Does the driver's door lock when turning the key? It should as its is mechanically fixed. When you turn the key does the inside courtesy light come on (before opening door)? Can you lock/unlock the passenge...

"This is the registration system used prior to the current one and most of the vehicles on Britain's roads today display a plate of this type." If only that were still the case... Re: 1.7 480

The 1.7 is actually my preferred engine because of insurance costs (I'm still 18, 19 next month) And don't they all have alloys? As a 17 year old new driver, I can confirm that mine was insured for £1800* on a pay monthly basis. If you're buying on engine size do what I did and search out an early ...
