Re: headlight motor needed

Wait, what? There is a Volvo 480 in the USA? Please, do tell us more! :)

Looks like a broken headlight motor indeed. I can send you a headlight motor, I just bought a couple of spares for $50 each, but the postage across the Atlantic will be bloody expensive...

Re: Engine model compatibility ( new engine for my car)

At the moment the only thing I can say is that my inlet manifold is black with chrome letters And the engine from other car have the same inlet manifold black with chrome letters Both a pre-1991 (phase 1) engine. Could be a good drop-in replacement. If it doesn't run you need to swap the flywheel, ...

Re: Engine model compatibility ( new engine for my car)

No, there are differences! Every evolution of the engine (at least two different versions exist) comes with its own ECU. Differences in camshaft profiling and TDP sensor. Also the flywheel is different from 1991 onwards.

Re: My new Volvo 480...

Just trying to look now at what engine and gearbox oil people recommend.. Engine oil: 10W40 semi-synth of a good brand, or just 10W40 from any brand if you don't plan to drive a lot and change oil every year anyway Gearbox oil: you MUST use oil that is compatible to Renault JB/JC gearboxes. Volvo 3...

Re: My new Volvo 480...

Hello Paul and welcome to this friendly and helpful lot! Positive points...low milage engine! Pulled with ease. I hate to burst your bubble but... are you sure the mileage on the clock represents the true mileage? Have you checked the MOT history? Every 480 will eventually suffer from broken odomete...

Re: International meeting - Netherlands - July 1st

I think some people have learnt their lesson and will now start planning a few months more in advance. :wall: Also we are trying to work something out in September. I'll keep you posted :) By the way, this weekend a LOT of rain is predicted with temperatures barely crossing 16 degrees. I think some ...

CANCELLED!!! International meeting - Netherlands - July 1st

Sorry guys, this meeting has been cancelled by the organiser. He claims there were only 5 participants and pulled the plug. But we may have an alternative. Orlando has cleared his field full of scrap 480's and now there is ample space for a meeting with BBQ and camping. No facilities whatsoever, apa...

Re: Blinky 51/480

Further investigations on the speedo. I pulled the dash out to check I had put the the cables back on correctly (I had done). Whilst I had the dash out again I took out the full beam bulb and painted it blue. I found that the blue was faded making the symbol appear white. The symbol hasn't faded, t...

Re: Blinky 51/480

You can get remanufactured glasses from Joep Vrijling in The Netherlands, about 75 euro for a set.
Only the headlight popup relay is unique, the rest is standard stuff. Every scrap Volvo will probably supply what you need.

Re: Windscreen Replacement Cost

Autoglass online quote £480. Did they mix up the car's type designation and the price? Never go to the chain outlets, find a local shop, they are much cheaper and usually more skilled to do the job properly! £150 for the windscreen here, though they are in Yorkshire and it is collection only ...

Re: Blinky 51/480

Be careful with the diagrams, you have to match the build date of the car with the diagrams. They were changed every few model years and became stable in 1993.

Re: Driving from SE England to the north, advice needed

Speed cameras in The Netherlands are operated by the police, they will send the fine to the address the car is registered to (i.e. the owner will be persecuted), and if that was a rental car, the car rental company wlll charge your credit card with the fine plus a surcharge. Until May this year, the...

Driving from SE England to the north, advice needed

I think this is the best place to ask :) We have decided to try driving on the wrong, errrr, other side of the road, i.e. will be spending our holidays in England this year. Not by 480 unfortunately, though it will seat all four of us comfortably and it is both more frugal and more agile, the luggag...

it was already broken thanks for repairing them. How bad were they? Atleast with them back to factory condition it eliminates them from the fault finding process :hopping: They weren't really bad, I've seen far, far worse. :) Luckily the mods done by the previous owner's mechanic could be reversed ...

All done, holiday is over for the instrument cluster and the VEM! :D
By the way, was the reset button of the trip counter already broken when you sent it, or did it break off during transit? Anyway, I have an awful lot of spares so there's another one in there now at no extra cost.
