Re: Driving from SE England to the north, advice needed
Well, me and my wife managed to survive over 1000 miles of driving on the left  We got a few hair-raising moments because we weren't used to the British roads. One lesson learned: do not approach a dual carriageway thinking it is laid out just like a motorway, with merging lanes allowing to pic...

Re: Disassembling front clusters (lenses)
I immersed them in a bucket of boiling hot water and let it soak for a while, then I carefully pried them apart. Only to find out that the reflective layer inside the lens was completely gone! So be prepared to add a coat of reflective paint onto the reflector, to restore the brightness of the...

Re: Windscreen washer jets on arms retrofit. Opinions please
OMG found a supplier for Volvo original jets too! I'll post up here once they arrive and proved everything has gone well. Not one of these online part places but a Volvo specialist abroad with stock! €14!!! Don't get your hopes too high. Let me guess, they are based somewhere in the Baltic states? ...

Re: bumper gap after welding
I think many 480's have only rusty flakes left where once the rear bumper support has been
It is a tad expensive (€ 400), but there is someone in Germany who manufactures rear bumper supports in fibreglass.

Re: Buying Cat C/D 480
I went and had a look at the ebay GT (as above). Generally it was in decent condition. Rear arches needed doing but boot, sills etc. all rust free. Stacks of paperwork, so mechanicals no issue. Interior good also. Photos of CAT C damage also included. In the end it went for £450, but the main issue...

Re: Volvo 480 2.0l Celebration "Breaking" all parts availabl
Hello Ger and Martin, and welcome! Those in need of a speedometer sensor: these parts are unavailable new. Be aware that in many cases the sensor is not at fault. Measure with an ohmmeter between pins 6 and 12 of the grey connector behind the instrument cluster. If you measure low ohms (say anything...

Re: Buying Cat C/D 480
Usually the colour Burgundy Red metallic (also known as 322 Flame Red metallic) suffers heavily from peeling of the clear coat. Bumpers are most susceptible to this phenomenon. As this car has had damage on bumpers and nose, it might be the case that these have been resprayed. Also, if the rear bump...

Re: lamda dash light
You can only see the broken soldering joints with a magnifying glass. I strongly recommend to solder them anyway. Just use a small soldering iron (approx. 25W), 60/40 rosin core solder and solder all pins again. Believe me, it works wonders. Also you could try and turn the faulty bulbs (after you ha...

Re: lamda dash light
If you have a problem in emissions the lambda light will remain on, not off (if you have a 2 litre engine that is - all others don't have this function). The green lamp that indicates standing lights and dipped beam is almost always blown, the high beam light almost never fails. The temperature givi...

Re: 480 Strange Electrics
CEM has nothing to do with popups and DRL. CEM only controls the long range lamps and the flashing and beeping of the direction indicators.

Re: 480 Strange Electrics
I have heard before from incorrect LEDs causing the popups to show erratic behaviour. Have you bought the correct fittings? For a combination of DRL/parking light (21/4W bulb) you need a BAZ15d fitting. These are uncommon, but not rare. A bit more expensive than the usual BAY15d, though. Both my 480...

At first the only online forum I could find was in Dutch so I was beginning to lose hope but it looks like I stumbled across the right place here! Don't let the Dutch at that forum scare you away, because generally the Dutch speak English very well.(*) But now you've met the friendly lot here you'l...

My big 12 year old Volvo friend will bring the parcel with a headlight popup motor to the post office today, should be at your place halfway next week. E-mail with tracking and tracing information should arrive in your mailbox once it's on its way. I've thrown some extra bits into the parcel, two he...

Hi all If the battery is fully charged and all I get is tictictic when I turn the key to start the engine, is the most likely cause the starter motor? Best Moi Either that, or you have a rotten connection in the wiring, or the battery is to blame (internal resistance too high). You can check the la...
