Re: William's 1993 480ES Two-Tone

Changer was NOT standard in Celebration Only 400 with changer as standard was 96/97 440/460 CD model. If you had an optional changer fitted, Volvo fitted it to the left hand side of the boot, as per the set up in my GT. Without wishing to rain on the parade, I think you need a Volvo changer to go wi...

Re: Passengers side mirror surround wanted.

'ow do ? Pudsey me Volvo 480 was awful noisy this morning which turned out to be spinning jennies and leaves in the cabin fan, but unfortunately knocked the passengers side mirror when leaning over into the engine bay. The mirror surround fell off as the front surround screw hole lugs had all broke...

What's the difference between an a/c and non-a/c power steering pump? Where are you Ragdalf? I can help you out with a light switch... David In the north part of sweden Ah....I did wonder, given your user name :D . That means you need a LH drive headlamp switch - pretty much everyone who's been helping you here, including me, is in the UK: I only have RH headlamp swi...

Re: Pudsey (rescue 480 R2 formerly known as PUD) update.

This us excellent news Richard👍.

As Jeff says, though - and whilst greatly appreciating your comments - Pudsey has been out of our hands long enough now for the credit for keeping it all as it should be to lie with you now...

Re: Pop up lights problem

The pop up motors relay is the double one as in Jeff's photo above. The round relay at the triangle end of the relay box on early cars is the light control unit monitoring fur bulb failure on the headlamps and the day running lights (DRLs). The round relay isn't relevant to the pop up motors. If you...

Re: engine mounts on their way out?

Everyone's made really pertinent points here Will, to which there's really little I can add. But looking right back to your original post two questions came to mind: 1. How old (in terms of mileage if nothing else) is the clutch? Just about anything in a 480 can make the dash rattle and shake, and i...

Re: Radios - Troubleshooting and Repair

Will, that is a very interesting read with which I just about kept up - instrument cluster re-soldering I can and have successfully done many times now, but I wouldn't know where to start on there. Which is why, of course, I passed it to you  It's clearly been a labour of love, and I really do ...

Re: Rescue Car: R3

218 is Arctic Blue, 219 is Petrol Blue. Assuming it's not tipping it down like it is here a quick pop of the bonnet will tell us for certain. 219-5 if I remember correctly And Jeff wins the "Mr Memory" (or "Sad Nerd", depending on your perspective ;) ) prize - Felicity is indeed 219-5, so Petrol bl...

Re: Rescue Car: R3

She’s a very nice example of an early car. Looks almost identical to Ben’s 480 as well (bar the newly coloured bumpers). Arctic blue must’ve been quite a popular colour for these early cars as I believe R1 is the same as well. Am I right in thinking this has the potent B18E? If I remember arightly ...

Re: and then there were 9...... (rescue cars that is)

Well, not quite, because the exhaust system (except, I think, the cat itself) is rotten. So far I have replaced the downpipe (the flange meeting the cat was completely rusted away), the back box has just been delivered (the delivery guy thought it was some sort of tree sculpture thing in all its pac...

Re: and then there were 9...... (rescue cars that is)

So I took the drain plug out of the radiator - and nothing came out, nothing at all. Anyway, obtained nice new water pump and thermostat, and got on with the necessary dismantling. The system didn't look any prettier inside: https://i.postimg.cc/1XWZJPYG/20221002-115306.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/QxHL...

Back to the updates! I then spent a happy day on a full service - new timing belt and pullies (not before time), Poly-V-belt (definitely not at all before time!), spark plugs, HT leads, distributor cap, rotor arm, oil filter (genuine Volvo of course) and oil. https://i.postimg.cc/t4s9vZbY/20221001-1...

Re: and then there were 9...... (rescue cars that is)

In regards to the mismatched wheels, I believe the Aviors are the originals. I think 1991 was the last year for the Pollux’s. Alternatively, you could upgrade to a set of 15” Taurus wheels (there’s a set on Marketplace I believe). Would look really nice with the Paris Blue paint! I thought I'd lent...

Re: and then there were 9...... (rescue cars that is)

I decided to start under the bonnet - before putting too much effort into cleaning I'd like to know she actually runs, plus my understanding is that she was laid up when "the clutch went" - until I can run the engine and try moving Bluebell under her own steam, I don't know whether I need to just ad...
