Re: Paypal Money Pool for 480 Rescues

I'm no longer sending money as PayPal imposes a hefty charge to convert to GBP from Euro. Now I'm ticking in all honesty "Gift" on the customs form which is affixed to a box with spares, sent to an undisclosed person who has his front yard full with rescue car projects. :)

Re: Nice Youtube review

I really liked the way this review came to be. I've contacted Steph if she wanted to review a 480, opened a thread about it on the forum, Edie responded which is great as Edie's car is one of the best preserved examples. On top of that, a turbo automatic is powerful yet effortless to drive. Now let'...

It's MOTed and drives well, it even comes with a full tank, so I don't see the problem! :D

Re: For Sale Celebration 206 Offers over £1000

This is the right price for someone who is really wanting to get into a 480. The first year you'll gain confidence in the car so you know it's mechanics are OK, then after its first MOT it's time to have the arches done and then fight the clear lacquer peel with a complete respray. (I've been follow...

Re: For Sale Celebration 206 £1400ono

One of the few of this forum I've met in person, sad to see you go Arthur, but with an impending house move I can totally understand. :( About the instrument cluster (which was brought to me in person for refurbishment  ), I think the circuit trace is a bit iffy. If you take the cluster out whi...

Re: 1990 Turbo Auto - VOL 480T

I work for one of the largest car insurers in the Netherlands, my 480 is insured for less than £50... a year! (There is one catch, I'm limited to 5000 km a year). The 2 litre HDi without DPF is capable of mileages well over 500,000, you only need to worry about the turbo which failed in my car...

Re: 1990 Turbo Auto - VOL 480T

Thanks for finding it a good home Edie. Is the Xantia a HDI or does it still have the XUD engine? I've always liked those cars, much more than their successor C5 which is just a bland blob.

Re: Northampton-Derbys-Yorks Meet 25-26th Sept 21

Martin, sorry you can't make it. Any 400 with the 2.0 engine will give you the pipe you need - I believe there are a few 440s at Lakes; perhaps if someone is going there they could look for you? I was at Orlando's yesterday, could have bought one there and dropped it in the mail, but it would never...

Which lights don't work?

Rear lights?
Popup headlights?
Spot beams?

We need a little more information!

Re: 480 and the ULEZ

The tests were carried out by "Rijksdienst voor het Wegverkeer" (Government Agency for Road Traffic) which is the Dutch counterpart of the DVLA. They handle both vehicle registrations and approvals. The tests are dated May 24, 1994 and are valid for the 1995 model year of the 480. In that model year...

Re: 480 and the ULEZ

Chances are very slim. Engines in the 480 are Euro 2 compliant, for the ULEZ your car needs to be Euro 4 compliant.

A turbocharged engine is more efficient than the normally aspirated one, so that is why their emission figures are better.

Re: 480 and the ULEZ

Got a reply from Volvo - and not a very helpful one: I am very sorry, but we failed to find emission information about this old car, also after looking in our historical archive. This type were certified by NedCar in the Netherlands, and we don’t have access to their old files. Also it is too old t...

Crusty arches, leaks everywhere, infocentre dead, looks like an interesting project. Then again, at 355 pounds it's a steal.

Re: Some electrical problems

Model year 87 or late 87 which makes it model year 88? That might sound trivial but the electrics were changed in 1988, and again in 1989, 1991 1/2 (major change) and 1993 model years. Does your instrument cluster have yellow and red connectors? If yes, it's MY 1988. Blue and yellow makes it MY 1987.

Re: N615 RAP, Celebration, 4/AUG/21, near Brixham, Devon

Avantime had to go, I couldn’t bear its awful ride. It may have just been mine, rather than Avantimes in general, but I just didn’t love it after the novelty of a sexy Espace wore off. This very much sums up why the Avantime was a flop. Being a Matra owner at the time the Avantime came to market, I...

Re: Festival of the unexceptional 2021

Now we have had Brexit and Covid-19 is on its way out, let's hope we've had our fair share of plagues in the 2020s so I can visit the UK in 2022. And I also hope FOTU 2021 will be such a success that everybody wants to come next year as well. :)
