AFAIK engine 'steady' is simply a baby shock absorber, possibly 'gas filled' , (when new? )
Interesting. I had the pop up light struts re-gassed. I wonder if the damper could be regassed too?‎

Re: Dendy's 480 Diary

Fortunately, FAE have a compatible unit that is pretty easy to get hold of, although not cheap. That’s useful to know. Do you have a part number? I suppose the idea is that shearing forces will be minimal and most of the weight will be going straight downward, at least that's the theory. I believe ...

Re: Fuel pump has no power

How about considering the pump dead rather than considering that there is no power to it. You really need to get a voltmeter accross that green/red wire and ground ‎to see what you are dealing with. If the pump is dead, be very careful when you extract the pump assembly from the tank not to damage t...

Re: 2018 meetings

Change of subject. Can anybody point me to any articles on repairing the aft wheel arches? Glass-fibre, tin, wattle & daub, mud - all will be considered. In anticipation - thanks. This is your silver car? It was rather short on wheel arches from what I remember! Basically, buy the inner and outer r...

Re: Free LHD dutch 1995 480ES in Scotland

Could you hire one of those little car transporter converted vans maybe and go yourself?‎ I assume you've heard of Shipley‎? If not, basically you place an ad and people bid for your transport work. It starts high and goes lower basically.  I appreciate that middle of nowhere means it'll probably co...

No mate, don't do it! It is likely gum up lots of little coolant passages and your radiator forever and ever.

Matrix is cheapish. Haven't ever fitted one so can't comment if it's easy or hard. Probably somewhere inbetween.

Momo Wheel

Momo steering wheel and boss I noticed that this car being broken for parts had the Volvo Momo steering wheel‎ in. Not sure if it's the Palm Beach or Daytona one, I don't really know the difference. I checked and it hasn't been sold. They didn't tell me the price.  It's not really my thing. If you a...

Free LHD dutch 1995 480ES in Scotland

Free 480ES in Scotland I've been offered a free LHD 480ES (2.0) which is an hour north of Ullapool in Scourie. It was driven over by a Dutch guy but came off the road when the Dutch MOT ran out. Apparently it was running and was solid but would need a new clutch and some bushes.‎ A few parts have be...

I just did this recently and used Gates autocat to get the right part number. Then once I had the kit number I got one from Amazon of all places! ‎https://www.gatesautocat.com Your B18FT engine number is going to be greater than 16530 so you should need gates kit K015130XS. Other manufacturers are a...

Rev Counter Inoperative

Does anyone have any bright ideas about getting the rev counter to work? I've changed the crank sensor and that didn't help. I've heard that the needle might be stuck. Other than that, I'm stumped. I don't have any wiring diagrams and to be honest don't exactly know how it works other than counting ...

Indicator stalk, high beam, mechanically latching switch

Has anyone ever repaired an indicator stalk that will not latch on to high beam? This is a mechanical problem.  It is cheap enough to get a second hand one (£10-15) but I wouldn't really know if it works until I receive and test it.  You could buy a new one from Volvo only a few years ago but I don'...

Not quite a full answer but these are the colours according to our own site:

We'd need to see a GT's ID plate for conclusive proof.

Re: 1987 480 ES Project -- D-reg, 2nd oldest in UK

There has been a huge amount of work done since the last update. I have to confess that *my* work stopped once I finally got it to start and drive once again as I've left the country for my job and wont be back until May 7th. The baton has been taken by the tame village mechanic who is my friend and...
