Re: Am I mad?

The discrepancies between the needed parts and your stock of scrap parts can be cobbled together in this part of the world and sent to NZ. Thumbs up! brinkie and others here and on the FB groups have definitely been an enormous help with getting my USA Volvo 480 Turbo back in shape! The car has a g...

Re: leaking auxiliary water pump

Ok, new ring is in place and cleaned surfaces mate perfectly. http://i1063.photobucket.com/albums/t515/JRT480/Fotografia2660_zpsse5as8z1.jpg I know this is an old post, but do you happen to know the o-ring size you used? The aux water pump on my 1993 turbo is leaking in the same spot yours is and I...

Re: Bilstein B4's

On Demon Tweeks, why is it that the description of all these dampers are "Rear", or maybe I'm being dense. https://www.demon-tweeks.com/uk/search/shop-by/q/bilstein%20b4/vaa__vehicles_code/59171ce6af48b/ Also Jeff, could you elaborate on springs, I understand you went for Lesjofors, may I ask why? ...

Re: My 480 life is just beginning!

Here's a couple pictures of the battery cutoff installed on the negative terminal. My car has a non-original negative ground cable (it came that way when I bought it, it's on the list to replace at some point). https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/47646417931_42c630c82e_z.jpg https://live.staticflick...

Re: My 480 life is just beginning!

I would definitely recommend against installing the battery cutoff switch on the positive side. It's a spark/fire/safety hazard as you significantly increase the surface area that contains the positive voltage. I successfully installed one on my negative side. I'll try to take a picture and post back.

Re: Bilstein B4's

I just ordered B4s front and rear (shipped to the USA) from Demon Tweeks at the end of March. They arrived on my doorstep in 4 days!

Re: Coming to America - mathrock's USA Volvo 480 Turbo

+1 for the can of Wheels Gose Round beer from Left Hand Brewery; I have never drank that particular beer but they make some pretty good craft beers. A couple of years ago I got "paid" for a speedometer repair with a load of spare parts and a bottle of "Wake Up Dead" Imperial Stout. I guess the name...

Re: Coming to America - mathrock's USA Volvo 480 Turbo

How is the speedometer/odometer in miles doing? Tonight I installed the new speedometer and instrument cluster. My previous one had started to fall apart with the gauges flaking and becoming see through. Robert sent me one from the Netherlands which had the speedometer in miles per hour (MPH). He e...

Robert, I haven't yet tested it out. I'm waiting until the current odometer in km matches what you set on the replacement one in miles. I think I only have 48km to go. I'll definitely post here with pics and progress!

Re: Coming to America - mathrock's USA Volvo 480 Turbo

I changed my oil for the first time this weekend. I attempted this last weekend, but was foiled by the unusual (in the USA) drain plug. Ordered a set of 8mm and 10mm square drain plug bits via Amazon. Drain plug bits https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7827/46685306364_cd3dc60d21_z.jpg Previously I had p...

Re: vinyal wrapping a tatty dashbord surround?

Moreover, I did not paint my dashboard surround since I was worried that it will be too shiny compared to all the switches, knobs, etc. Did you paint also these other elements? Thanks. No, I didn't repaint all the other switches and trim inserts. The black matte paint with satin clear matched close...

Re: vinyal wrapping a tatty dashbord surround?

I like that but I'm going to press ahead with my experiments! I'm going to fill, sand flat then try a mat black paint, and if that fails a mild sand and the wrap! Will keep you posted! Tim I did this with my cracked dashboard. it turned out really well. Just take your time and pay attention to deta...

There is a thread on dashboard renovation where the damage was only on the edges, which was repaired then covered with a 20mm wide strip of black PU leather. Sorry to say I can't find the thread, but it looked very neat when done.

I recently removed and replaced the lock ring on the door which often starts to fade and crack. Wrote up a post over in the How To section viewtopic.php?f=24&t=35860.

Door Lock Ring Replacement / Door trim removal

The black plastic lock ring around my door looks were looking very faded, and in fact were starting to flake off from all the sun and UV damage. Thankfully, Joep Vrijling makes replacement parts to make them look as good as new. The lock rings can be removed by gripping them with your fingernails an...

On the rear bumper: What about filling the licence plate gap with a reflector or a light or two?
I'm thinking of buying a sheet of UV-resistant black polypropylene plastic to fabricate a filler plate to adapt to the US size plate.

Re: Coming to America - mathrock's USA Volvo 480 Turbo

the front plate doesn't look too bad but that rear...... If we got a front number plate (white in the UK) made up with similar details entered on it, would that be legal? I've thought about this. There are websites that can make custom Euro plates with whatever text you want. Unfortunately in Maryl...
