Re: Wanted - various parts

From your description I would think that either the connectors to the motors or the rubber hoses to them have been swopped, good news is at least one of the motors still works.

Re: No Spark

Thanks for the advice. Tonight it started fine but after 15-20 mins it stalled again and would not start again for a while then did start and ran for a few mins before stalling again and wouldn’t restart. Dizzy cap and rotor arm replaced with new while sorting idle problem also crank sensor cleaned ...

No Spark

My 480 has been on stands in the garage for a few months while I sorted some bodywork. I backed it out of garage today and it then stalled and wouldn’t restart, checked and didn’t have a spark. After a couple of hours I tried again and it started for about 10 seconds then stalled again and then won’...

Re: Radio remote wire location

The blue wire from fuse 25 is the ignition feed to the radio. Fuse 25 also feeds the air con and/or heater (white/black wire) so can’t just be removed. This info is from the 1991 wiring diagram which looking at your profile should be correct. However there were a few changes around this time so may ...

Check to see if the connector on the back of the switch has become detached.

Re: Ignition switch problem?

I can’t tell you exactly where it is as I don’t have one but this should give you a good idea where it is and what it looks like. This shows a LHD so would assume it’s on the other side. However a search found this so maybe not. On RHD cars it is behind +above the bonnet release catch, meaning its t...

Re: Ignition switch problem?

So the mention of one wire going to the ECU & one wire going to the solenoid via the auto box inhibitor is a red herring? Was looking at diagram for my car which is pre CEM and one wire goes to ECU and one goes straght to solenoid, sorry. Post CEM one wire goes to the ECU the other goes to the CEM ...

Re: Ignition switch problem?

Looking at the latest diagram I have (dated 1991, so might not cover 1995) my money would be on the CEM. Disconnect it, put the car in P or N if you don’t get smoke you need a new CEM if it still smokes it’s in the wiring between the auto switch and the CEM.

Re: Ignition switch problem?

Where it splits one wire will be undamaged as it goes to the ECU and is not shorting out (as proved by no smoke when not in P or N) the other one goes to the solenoid of the starter (via the switch on autos) and will be damaged to some extent all the way along it. The size of the starter motor won’t...

Re: Ignition switch problem?

Try selecting anything other than Park or Neutral and then try and start the car if you no longer get smoke that will eliminate most of the starter circuit and point almost certainly to the starter/solenoid. If it still smokes your problem is elsewhere. The wire will be melted to some degree inside ...

Re: Lumpy when hot

Having looked at pictures of the turbo engine I’m not sure as I can’t see where the pipes from the oil separator go and Vadis shows an O-Ring rather than a gasket on the throttle valve.

A picture of the 2.0 on the other hand shows the pipe going to the throttle valve and Vadis shows a gasket.

Re: Lumpy when hot

Oil Separator 3342132 but as with most parts these days I couldn’t find a new one. I think it’s just a metal maze inside the can, I could be wrong though so do at your own risk but I used washing up liquid and lots of hot running water to wash most of the gunk out (I also have a spare if it turns ou...

Re: Lumpy when hot

https://vgy.me/Lb5diQ.png The oil trap which you can only just see in the picture should catch and return the oil back to the crankcase. When it becomes full of gunk the oil comes up the pipe and into the air pipe which then makes its way up to the throttle body and rots the gasket letting in air. ...

Re: Lumpy when hot

I have just spent over a year trying to sort out my idle which at first was doing the same. Over time the temperature at which it would start got lower and lower to the point it would do it from cold and the times it would correct itself got fewer and fewer. Like you I changed the plugs, dizzy, roto...

Re: Leaks and Footspa's Re-Visited...

Somewhere else to look out for especially if it’s the nearside rear footwell are the seals at each end of the cable (and the cable) that runs from the roof into the tailgate. If it’s leaking into the roof the water will run down a channel in the roof into the nearside C pillar and comes out in the n...

Re: Agreed Valuation / Mileage Insurance?

My apologies if you are already aware but unless things have changed, do remember that classic car policies do not build up no claims discounts. Yes that’s true with the policy I have (OK if you’re getting it from another car, not so good if it’s your only car). Also other things might not be cover...

That's who I use, £180 for the year with 5000 miles.

Going below 5000 only made a small difference but over 5000 was quite a jump.
