toothpaste has worked on this sort of thing for me in the past, mildly abrasive and good for polishing!

there are quite a few possible abs/brake system combinations in a 480 so they're right in saying its important to get the right one. they probably dont need to take it off to find the correct replacement tho. I removed one from a spares car for my (early type) when the garage said mine needed replac...

sounds like you've got the right recipie for drying it out. test one cyl at a time. probably wouldn't hurt changing the oil too?
