Re: 1.7 480

The Celebration on facebook belongs to Arthur (on the forum as oddballer) He came to the lunch on our last visit to Rutland Water in it. Looks lovely, I'm surprised it hasn't sold. I wondered if the 340 owner who has just popped up on fb looking for a Celeb would pick up on it. Sadly Arthur's income...

Re: Scrap or restore? Honest opinions needed!

The seams in the roof are about 10-15 cms in from the edges and run from front to back. Your line of rust looks to be further towards the middle?
This really is starting to look like a nice pile of spares....

Re: 1.7 480

So, you are happy with the spec and engine, which is good. You'll see the condition when you view it, also good. The mileage is dubious, check the condition of the driver's seat and the pedal rubbers - any signs of wear usually means high mileage. Ask when the cambelt was last changed - if he doesn'...

Re: 1.7 480

I'll add my tuppence worth: Love your enthusiasm but dont let it rush you into making the wrong decision. We'd like to welcome you into the wedgie fold with a car you'll be happy with. A disaster could mean the loss of a new member. I have to say, a 480 is a great choice for someone wanting a 90's c...

Re: Volvo 480 book

Eric emailed me a few days ago to say that he has sent the order to the printers even though he only has about 30 orders. This is because some copies are wanted as Christmas gifts. If he still has stock of them when I start planning the next meeting (whenever that might be !) I shall order a small s...

Re: Scrap or restore? Honest opinions needed!

If you do find the alternator is defunct, check if it's the original Volvo one. If so it would be better to have it refurbed than replace with an aftermarket one. James and I have both had starter motors done by JASM (Just Alternators and Starter Motors) who seem to have done a good job. I had an af...

Re: Scrap or restore? Honest opinions needed!

We sold a mk2 Golf when I bought my first 480 in 2001 and it was love at first drive. Neither hubby nor I would have another Golf now we have 4 x 480s. , including my original one. I would be very reluctant to sell any of them - once driven forever smitten. There are plenty of people on here who hav...

Now that Pud has gone to to dc's Pamper Parlour under his own steam he has a new thread under Pud the Celebration so his story continues on there. DC is old school, all transport is female 😄

Re: Pud the Celebration - previously known as R2...

Looking great already David, I'm so pleased Pud's getting so much love and attention after all the years of neglect. I'm another fan of smoke grey and there's so few of them the save just had to be done !

I wouldn't hold your breath on the sorned one James, it had no mot history so unless that's another quirk, it's been sorned at least 14 years. How long was yours in store for ?

Re: UK Launch Cars

I've finished trawling through dvla, and sorry to say Keith and James own the only 2 launch cars with a current MoT :cryhard: I was hoping that there would be at least one or two others driving around that we didn't know about. The 259 breaks down as follows: 78 no record - presume dvla have been to...

I dont know how long the dealerships would have kept their launch cars? I wouldn't think a private plate would go on until it was sold.

Re: UK Launch Cars

This got me sufficiently intrigued to spend the last hour trawling through DVLA records. I started at D680CPV, which was an Austin. D688CPV Austin D689CPV - no details D690CPV - red Volvo 1721cc reg May 87 so the batch starts either at 689 or 690 then the end:- D948CPV - red Volvo 1721cc reg May 87 ...
