Re: My GT lives again!

Interesting. Yes, I think the passenger door lock does always feel more weighted. If there's no noise at all in the passenger door then it might be the motor gone then. At least if it's that it's the same on all 480s as far as I know,... I think you'll have to start looking into the door interiors a...

Re: My GT lives again!

Just to be clear, Ben, the motor is in the passenger door. The driver's door lock is mechanically operated by locks, but the control unit signals the passenger door motor to unlock the passenger door. If the control unit is faulty, therefore, locking/unlocking driver's door will give you silence, bu...

Re: Number Plates

 - my slightly sad confession is that I wish we were still allowed to use the pre-1974, old-style silver letters on black background plates. reckon they'd be set off nicely on Lily, my green GT...

It is, indeed, an interesting item to have found, thanks Edie!

Re: My GT lives again!

Central locking - switch inside driver's door lock; central locking motor in passenger door. Does the driver's door lock when turning the key? It should as its is mechanically fixed. When you turn the key does the inside courtesy light come on (before opening door)? Can you lock/unlock the passenge...

Re: Pud the Celebration - previously known as R2...

And for those wondering about the light coloured patch, Pud was the victim of an attempted theft, the damage from which is what caused her write-off and subsequent long, long sleep in a barn. The idiots obviously thought that the lower metal panel was part of the boot lid and bashed it about somewha...

Re: Pud the Celebration - previously known as R2...

Thanks all for your kind comments and encouragement - much appreciated! :) Just a morning spent on Pud today, before heavy rain and cold winds drove me back indoors. I was lucky enough to secure a replacement OS rear light unit from eBay the other day, in better nick than the existing one. Strangely...

Re: Number Plates

Indeed, and for those of us old enough to remember (and even owned: just one, my Cortina MkV which was my first car) it was the same with the previous suffix plates - the last two letters of the block of three gave you the place of origin :D

Latest ebay offering

I rather think the bodywork issues, if nothing else, make this one too far gone to be a potential "Rescue Car", but it might be of interest to someone on here, if only as a potentially cheap purchase of a source of many spares... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-480-ES-2-0-1998cc-Spares-or-repair-Pr...

Re: Pud the Celebration - previously known as R2...

Meanwhile, inside the car, I have swapped over the blower fan switch for one with an "off" setting - I know it needs to be on at least "1" for the air con to operate, but I like a window open when possible and the air con (even if it was working, which it isn't) won't operate at much under 9 degrees...

Re: Pud the Celebration - previously known as R2...

So over the last week or so work has intermittently continued on Pud, and I have to say I am very pleased with how she is coming together now! :D At the front end of the car, I have cleaned, re-sealed and adjusted the long-range auxiliary lights, repaired the broken pop-up cover so Pud now has her o...

 I talk to mind too - praise them and encourage them, apologise if the fault is mine (eg staying in too high a gear for the hill I'm asking her to climb). Mind you, I have also found that threatening a car with either being replaced or - even more dire - the scrapyard can sometimes shake them o...

Re: Scrap or restore? Honest opinions needed!

There are relays in the driver's footwell (pop off the side panel like where the bonnet release is on the side) and also under the bonet, under a triangular panel up near the scuttle. Clean, cross fingers, repeat! I'd second that! Plus, make sure your battery earth lead is making a sound connection...
