Re: 480 with sliding vinyl sunroof in Haarlem, Netherlands
Just a thought. The roof is part of the car's structure and an additional crossmember gives extra torsional rigidity. This is why the roof of a car with moonroof is different, the crossmember is located further aback. If you take out both the metal roof and the crossmember connecting both B-pillars...

Re: Pothole damage - Panhard rod
rear panhard rod will also be shared with the 440/460, I'm assuming the left to right not the pair at top running front to back? if you had the pukka bushes and decent welder no reason why your panhard rod would not be as good as the Volvo one , especially as your one broke! but a 'spliced' on...

I did forget to mention that it is a great car one can use everyday as well, so much more soul than a modern finance-deal-mobile yep, makes me think about a second one every time I drive the 480 vs C30 :-) Hang in there Alan; I'm almost there...just as soon as I have the Celeb to the standard I wan...

have you got a rear sub-frame?
not the beam axle , just the bit bolts to car and the round tubes that go to rear?
and do keep the front struts, as the pans are NLA

if it helps i had an issue where the wire was 'not quite' connecting the spade within a multi-plug, of course it would work when you pushed the probe into it to check for continuity, but the wire would back off in operation!! i could drive in reverse but not forwards due to engine torque 'just break...

Re: Oli's 1992 Volvo 480ES Limited Edition
Good lord, don’t tell me you store it with the handbrake applied???? no!!!! usually it is up on wooden blocks as well, but the 'auto adjuster' system decide to 'not auto adjust', stayed in 'just on position' I thought I was lucky as the clutch had not stuck this year, maybe a drier year or was a de...

Re: Oli's 1992 Volvo 480ES Limited Edition
maybe I'll live with them being 'matte' , it's not even like you can take them inside and watch telly :( well, you could take them off and take them inside (assuming you've not silicone sealed the buggers in place) Oli, Ok see what your plan of attack is, see how i get on although not 'sealed in' I...

Re: Oli's 1992 Volvo 480ES Limited Edition
thanks, i'd started with old used 'wet -n dry' can't recall grade, then moved onto an old tub of cutting compound, as mine were already 'matte' more time and effort required i think :( It’s time, not effort. Do use a sanding block to hold the paper, and do take your time, because whilst gett...

Re: Oli's 1992 Volvo 480ES Limited Edition
I didn't use a conventional light restoration kit, my process was as follows: > Tape around lights and cover reflector > Thoroughly dry sand vertically with 800 grit until the surface is dull and matte in appearance > Sand horizontally with 1000 grit using some water in a spray bottle to stop the p...

Re: Oli's 1992 Volvo 480ES Limited Edition
looks VERY well done, especially the rear lights!!
which polishing kit did you use,?? I really do need to do the rear lenses, so I'd rather go with a type that does work!!

Re: Big pop some smoke oil leak
lack of drive (fwd & reverse) does sound like an issue with thew auto box :-( I had an old Scimmy with a slush box and it would try and select second and reverse at the same time due to clutch bands not engaging/disengaing correctly. but start off simple things, check ALL fluid levels, engine, box, ...

looks to be 25mm too much in height, and you could ADD depth to bring up to correct dims, but not really take it away, unless the height listed is INCLUDING the threaded section? the gap beteeen the bolts could be 'adjusted'? needs a trip to a dealer or motor factor to check REAL sizes, not those f...

Re: Subframe mounting
Round and a flat piece of steel 2 bolts secure it to subframe this threw me as I thought 'flat steel with two bolts' referred to the both bolts were at the SAME end  although why this would refer to front mount was my mis-reading it. but anyway, if you do find the REAR mount do let us know :-...

Re: Subframe mounting
This is oil filled and very difficult to get hold of. Do your homework on here with search. I'd recommend getting one second hand from a late 440/460 that is being scrapped. You won't get a new one as far as we know here yep NLA as far as we can establish :-( really need to find an alternative, eit...
