I have some extractor sockets....made by westfalia...like a sharp left handed thread with 5-6 starts.

Never tried it.

I've had problems with these before...at the time i didn't have the sockets...so i ground it down to perfectly fit the imperial size next inline. - lots of heat...and it cracked.

The earths are often dodgy. I've seen this on Loki's car.

Coils going usually results in ignition cutting under boost...but i suppose they could cause this if they were further along in the death process.

It does sound like crank sensor is possible on 2nd reading. Its worth checking general setup too. Things like the timing belt not being a tooth out for example. - especially if the power was wrong, but then knowing the power is wrong is sometimes tricky if you've no means for comparison!
