As I was after the engine I am of course devastated to hear of 408/1's survival ;-(

Re: rear bumper bolts
Ive not set fire to them yet, in fact as I'm not actively a Gordan Ramsey fan I dont own a blow torch! This isn't my 480 which has already had it bumper 'repaired' but a tragic donor car, the owner would run out an extension lead for me so I have electrics if needed. Has anyone ever cut a bolt with ...

rear bumper bolts
Any tips on removing the 4 bolts that hold on the rear bumper if they are horrifically rusted on? Have tried (in order of violence) wd40, socket wrench, tap with hammer, socket with breaker bar... there isnt room for an angle grinder, would a dremel be upto the job of ether cutting as bolt or making...

Re: fixing a cracked dash surrroud...
Ah yes, I remember you posting that at the time, I'll keep you posted on how I get on with flexible filler & plasticote - if it all goes south I'll probably use a faux leather wrap over the whole thing

fixing a cracked dash surrroud...
I'm struggling to fix my black dash surround - esp the top left corner which is now several superglued fragments. Any tips for getting it to look slightly OEM!?! Has anyone used a filler, then sanded the whole thing down and then sprayed it with a topcoat that looks like the original? If so what pai...

Re: buzzweld brand products, any good?
Just used the buzzweld rust encapulator product and it was very pleasant, very thick drip free paint, has left a nice terracotta finish, I'll let you know how it looks in a year or so!

Re: Miscellaneous bits available
If no one else wants it I'd like the black dash surround, it looks to be in very good shape, maybe the windscreen water jets (I just need one but would happily save two!) and although it might be a state, how is the rear bumper, mine has been 'fixed' so I could do with a replacement to start over, e...

best glue for the fragile dashboard surround
Hi All,
I was just wondering if any of you have any favourite products for sticking the fragile black dashboard surround back together? I mean superglue is obvious, but I was wondering about using something that could dry mat black or perhaps be sanded to make the repair less visible?

Re: waxoil vs paints for the underside of the car
Hi James, thanks for the reply, my volv underside is covered in the bilt hambler wax rather than classic waxoil & has several aerosols worth of BH cavity wax in any metal orifice I've spotted. I' not sure how I treated the converted rust before the wax, I imagine I would have gone with quick squirt ...

waxoil vs paints for the underside of the car
My 480 is currently sorn pending some boot welding of various holes that have formed in the last few years. I used a good quality waxoil on the underside of the car a few years ago, on a reasonably clean bodywork, having steel brushed and rust converted any blobs of rust. So this experience is makin...

Re: buzzweld brand products, any good?
Thanks for that guys, much appreciated, I've tried quite a few of Bilt Hambler things over the years, and really like the epoxy mastic as a default base-coat paint, and love the POR15 seam sealer. The job I have in mind is a paint for a 'quick' underseal of rusty bits of the car when its in the shop...

Hi there,
I was looking for something like an Eastwood's rust encapsulation product and google threw up a UK company I had never heard of before called Buzzweld, have any of you used them?

Re: 2.0 rebuild considerations?
The little round 'spinning top' type mount is oil filled? That seems such a backward step from the massive rubber toblrone on the earlier 480s! Well hopefully I should have a new used one on the way soon

Re: 2.0 rebuild considerations?
I should say, its just the final rear damper that hasnt been replaced on mine, new hydraulic damper from Germany hasn't made much difference - two second hand side dampers and the original rear- I guess that is the next thing to replace although my garage said it looked ok. -That said the rebuild ma...

Re: 2.0 rebuild considerations?
Have you checked compression? Have the valve clearances been checked and adjusted? The engine in my car has been replaced after 200,000 miles after tests showed that cilinder #2 had only 8 bar compression left. Hey Robert & James, the engine has had a poor few years, the lpg was certainly making it...
